Goodbye paycheck.

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, my name's Mike and I just did my level one last Saturday. Did my first jump course the weekend before that but got weathered and had to come back to jump. Everything went well until I landed on my ass.

So I've been sore all week and it was the most worthwhile soreness I've ever had in my life. Level two is this coming Saturday!

And levels 3-7 won't be far behind and at some point I'll have to start buying gear, hence the title of my intro.

I've never done anything so amazing in my life and I plan on doing it a lot more. Hopefully I don't ask too many annoying newbie questions!!

Well, that's better than the face plant I did on my first two jumps.

And yes, kiss your paycheck goodbye. This is a very addictive world you wandered into. :)

You know we didn't really talk about the landing. I got the feeling I didn't flare soon enough because it looked like my feet were almost touching before he told me to (yes, I was looking down...). BUT this was my first time so I don't really think I'm very good at judging how far from the ground I am yet.

We mainly talked about what I remembered from the freefall, not so much my crash.

They DID teach you to PLF, right?
They DID explain that you could break tailbones, vertebrae and crush discs by landing on your ass, right?

PLF is your friend and you would be serving yourself well by doing that rather than landing on your ass.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

Sounds familiar... LOL. Though I am static-line trained, and thought to PLF, I also landed on my butt the first time. When I flared, thought I wasn't going that fast. But I flared way high so I only had a vertical movement at landing point. Still thought, wow this goes well, I'll land on my feet! And by thinking that I landed on my feet.... but at such a speed that my knees gave way and my butt was the next thing to touch the ground. Think I've sunk the DZ about a meter or so.... Wow did that hurt !! THat same day I made my second jump, although I could still feel the pain. It's been six months and sometimes I still feel my butt!! Didn't keep me from jumping though... B|B|

Good luck on your next jumps, and don't forget that PLF... (never forgot after that first jump, and as from jump #18 no more PLF, just stand-up landing for me...

Who cares if you ask questions...welcome to the sport! Most of us have stories similar to yours on landing. A note for caution, be aware that if you have an incident and it causes bodily pain, and it continues to cause pain, by all means get checked out medically. A fracture of the tail bone, as any bone takes time to heal. Get healthy, stay healthy, stay safe and jump...your safety and the safety of others is number 1 in our sport. Good luck and Blue Skies!

We all have thought/lived that at one point (at least). Me personally. I think that about once a month. Hahaha. Well welcome to the sport, have fun, and I am sure we will run into each other eventually.
