virulindex 0 #1 January 24, 2008 Hey everyone, my name's Mike and I just did my level one last Saturday. Did my first jump course the weekend before that but got weathered and had to come back to jump. Everything went well until I landed on my ass. So I've been sore all week and it was the most worthwhile soreness I've ever had in my life. Level two is this coming Saturday! And levels 3-7 won't be far behind and at some point I'll have to start buying gear, hence the title of my intro. I've never done anything so amazing in my life and I plan on doing it a lot more. Hopefully I don't ask too many annoying newbie questions!!
taylor.freefall 0 #2 January 24, 2008 hahahahaha I can relate as I bet many can. I also now have no money and I seem to land on anything BUT my feet Good luck with the AFF

Well, that's better than the face plant I did on my first two jumps. And yes, kiss your paycheck goodbye. This is a very addictive world you wandered into. skymama 37 #5 January 25, 2008 Welcome to the forums! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
virulindex 0 #6 January 25, 2008 You know we didn't really talk about the landing. I got the feeling I didn't flare soon enough because it looked like my feet were almost touching before he told me to (yes, I was looking down...). BUT this was my first time so I don't really think I'm very good at judging how far from the ground I am yet. We mainly talked about what I remembered from the freefall, not so much my crash. hechz 0 #7 January 29, 2008 I just started myself. Be careful of flaring too soon too. I flared bet. 20 and 30 feet and nearly smeared myself across the grass.
grannyinthesky 0 #8 January 29, 2008 Flaring too soon is probably better than what I did on my first 2 jumps which was to not flare further than my shoulders. You don't slow down much when you do that. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
popsjumper 2 #9 February 1, 2008 They DID teach you to PLF, right? They DID explain that you could break tailbones, vertebrae and crush discs by landing on your ass, right? PLF is your friend and you would be serving yourself well by doing that rather than landing on your ass.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. slingerapie 0 #10 February 8, 2008 Quote Everything went well until I landed on my ass. Sounds familiar... LOL. Though I am static-line trained, and thought to PLF, I also landed on my butt the first time. When I flared, thought I wasn't going that fast. But I flared way high so I only had a vertical movement at landing point. Still thought, wow this goes well, I'll land on my feet! And by thinking that I landed on my feet.... but at such a speed that my knees gave way and my butt was the next thing to touch the ground. Think I've sunk the DZ about a meter or so.... Wow did that hurt !! THat same day I made my second jump, although I could still feel the pain. It's been six months and sometimes I still feel my butt!! Didn't keep me from jumping though... Good luck on your next jumps, and don't forget that PLF... (never forgot after that first jump, and as from jump #18 no more PLF, just stand-up landing for me... ckrincker 0 #11 February 11, 2008 Who cares if you ask questions...welcome to the sport! Most of us have stories similar to yours on landing. A note for caution, be aware that if you have an incident and it causes bodily pain, and it continues to cause pain, by all means get checked out medically. A fracture of the tail bone, as any bone takes time to heal. Get healthy, stay healthy, stay safe and jump...your safety and the safety of others is number 1 in our sport. Good luck and Blue Skies! baseknut 0 #13 February 18, 2008 Quote hence the title of my intro. We all have thought/lived that at one point (at least). Me personally. I think that about once a month. Hahaha. Well welcome to the sport, have fun, and I am sure we will run into each other eventually. Blue Ones -JStep into my (sub)terminal Playground
