Jumped 2 weeks ago for 40th Birthday.

Hi all, should have posted here first anyway, as it says above I finally did it and managed to tick this off my to-do list. This is something that I've wanted to do for so long now. WOW! what an experince, its just a shame it didn't do down to well with my wife and family! But they understood it was something I needed to do.

After having the time to think about it I have realised that this has taught me to really appreciate the beauty of life and love, friends and family.

Heart pumping preparation, followed by a mind blowing accent to exit, topped off with the most peaceful couple of minutes under the snazziest canopy I've ever seen. I'm grinning from ear to ear just thinking about it!:)

Hi Ice!
Well done on the jump.

I see in your profile that your home DZ is in Nenagh? Where the heck is the DZ there?!! My parents live there! I go there regularly and I never knew there was a DZ there!!
I am in Wisconsin and I jump at Skydive Midwest!

Are you going to jump again? :)

Erinagh Airfield
Erinagh, Capparoe
Nenagh
Co. Tipperary

They are a great bunch of guys there, and like yourself I never knew they were there. I thought when I was trying to organise the jump i would have to head to Dublin or some such place but I was delighted to find this motley crew:P

I did the S/L day course WOW! taught me everything I needed to know to get out of a perfectly good aircraft and we were blessed with the weather, we managed to jump that evening heading into a glorious sunset!

As to jumping again...i'm in negotiations as we speak!!!;)

hmmm, its funny that, When i decided that for my first jump it had to be a S/L because I needed to at least try and attempt all of it on my own so to speak. literally falling out of an aircraft is quite easy I found, (Jeez i hope that doesn't sound too bigheaded!) and after that its really a case of do as you were instructed, and you should be fine and thats exactly how it was.

On the day of my jump there were Tandem Jumpers as well and I have to admit to being slightly jealous firstly as their instuction took only 20min. and they have the whole freefall thingy. So it seems Now I have to get a bit of that! It was really a parachute jump i did, 3-4sec on the end of a leash is completely differant to 20-30 secs of freefall. Or am I being too critical?? How do others here feel about that? Think I might ask this out on the forum.

I did a tandem jump just for fun.....next thing you know, my thoughts are consumed with skydiving...haha

the one thing that drove me crazy was the complete absence of fear for the tandem....so I signed up for AFF, but after being completely consumed with skydiving for 2 weeks, I knew I had finally found my hobby/sport/love. I did the AFF because freefall is what I wanted most, I am just now beginning to love my canopy flights.

but my girlfriend is doing her static line progression and in the end you pushing for the same goal= to be a skydiver and to fly...so I don't think it matters which route you take.

Keep us updated on how it goes and

I've signed up for AFP and had ground school last Saturday and I have 2 more tandems set for this Saturday.

And I can't get any of my friends or family to go with me (I hear the "you're out of your mind" phrase quite a bit lately). So........... it looks like I'm going to want to make some more friends, too!

Good luck on the "negotiations"! My negotiation skills suck because I never got to do this when I was married!!!

:D
