citygirl 0 #1 October 2, 2008 I just have to say that although I am afraid of planes, heights and roller coasters, I dug skydiving. The first jump, was, well, SCARY! But once I got on the ground I couldn't wait to go back up so I signed up on the spot for a second tandem. I passed, ready for the solo jump after a class. Just wondering how scary it is to throw yourself out of a place without the help of an instructor... Any opinions? I figure once I do that I am ready for BASE jumping off the Sears Tower. Jumped Skydive Chicago w/ Bill. I recommend him for first timers, really nice guy!
mr_music11 0 #2 October 2, 2008 Woooo hooooo... another 1 in the fold!!! Welcome! As with any risk based sport, there will always be an element of the unknown to face. Read other threads on the site about "favorite parts of skydiving".. you'll find a miriad of answers as to when each of our hearts race or stay calm. For me, all I have to do is think about the way I feel after a jump with all of its elements combined and it ALWAYS sums up to=may I have another please! No matter when you get into your comfort zone for the sport, it will be a journey that you will NEVER forget. Again, welcome... good luck in your training.. blue skiesIf flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive. I was really nervous on my first several jumps, but I learned to relax. I never had thoughts of backing out once we were up in the air ... I just kind of convinced myself that the only way back to the ground was going out the door.Serious relationships turn into work after a few weeks and I already got a fucking job :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H.A.F. = Hard As Fuck ... citygirl 0 #4 October 3, 2008 I really love the personal challenge of the ground racing up at 1000 feet per second, locking into core focus and concentrating at the task at hand. It was a challenge the first time when I jumped. The tandem master was teasing us first timers about the 12000 feet jump into freefall, and I kinda sunk down beneath the planes' windows. But I just taped into the mindset of "what goes up, must come down."And now I have to admit, I am sure hooked! (-: ?: Can you finish your training throughout the U.S. or do you have to stick to one school till you have your license?Quote
 anthonyfellows 0 #5 October 3, 2008 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3344757Serious relationships turn into work after a few weeks and I already got a fucking job :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H.A.F. = Hard As Fuck ... Having the same instructors throughout AFF calmed my nerves a bit. Even if it wasn't the same instructor for each jump, at least it was someone who I had seen and talked with before. I checked into jumping at a dz closer to home than the one I've been going to and the dzo said it was no problem that I don't have my A license yet. They only required that I was cleared to self supervise and brought along my logbook. My experence there is limited because I've only checked into jumping at one other place.Serious relationships turn into work after a few weeks and I already got a fucking job :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H.A.F. = Hard As Fuck ... But I too stayed at one DZ just because of comfort level. Again, congrats! and good luck!If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive. To answer your question about AFF training, you can train at different dz's but it is probably best to stick with one dropzone because it will be easier for your instructors to keep track of how you are progressing. Once you get your A license after 25 jumps, it's easier to travel around to different dz's. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
