Rigging question: reserve soft handles

Recommended Posts

Hello forum, hello riggers.

I've a little problem with my new gear:
On the last 3 jumps, the soft reserve pad rolled under the harness.
I allways checked the position of both handles on exit, but after the opening, the result was the same:S .
What can I do to prevent this?

I'm not a rigger.

Offhand, I'd stop using that handle.

I see from your sig line that you have a last line of defence - but you wouldn't need it if you listened to that little voice that should be saying "Sooner or later that handle is not going to be accesable when I need it - and then I'll be roundly screwed up the arse with a rough stick.."

Several manufacturers now offer pillow reserve handles which either have a plastic swadge or actually a mini d-ring inside the pillow.

These designs prevent the handle from turning under the harness but are still unlikely to be caught by another jumper/plane.

Or you could just get a D-ring.

This is a very serious problem. I would address it immediately. As said above. Contact mfr. They need to know.

OK, the problem was fixed by rigger.
It seems, that the problem which scared me was the result of a little spin in the reserve cable caused by the wrong attached pad (little packing error).
