shawnstarr 0 #1 May 23, 2004 hey all you gear heads! i just won an auction on ebay. its an older mirage. not sure what but its not g4 or g3. no articulation. it and the main supposedly have 600 jumps. main is crossfire 109 (s#96613118) reserve raven-m 109 ,0 jumps(s#51834694). i will pay $1300 for it all. turns out that both the main and reserve were recalled because of various manufacturing errors. are these probs too late to fix. icarus said the crossfire needed to be sent back by 2001 or it would be grounded. is this too much of a pain in the ass to buy or is it a good deal with easily fixible problems? the reason i'm posting here is i have not heard back from manufacturers and i've called and sent e-mails. any advice is appreciated------------------------------------------------ 'I refuse to tiptoe quitely through life only to arrive safely at death' Anon
PhreeZone 20 #2 May 23, 2004 The Raven recall is needed before a rigger can repack it or before you can jump it. It takes about a week to 7 businesas days to do and is about $100. The Crossfire canopy is grounded until you do the fix on it. I'm not sure the cost of it but it is basically a complete trim change on the canopy and it reduces its chances of it collapsing. Plan on spending another $150-200 just to get it jumpable not including any rework needed on the Mirage.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Sounds like you have already bought it if you've won the auction. Are you looking for a reason to back out of the contract you entered when you bid on the item??? Isn't before you bid a better time to find out what you're bidding on? Just curious because of your wording (in red) above. Perhaps you already have every intention of honoring your bid. sundevil777 102 #4 May 23, 2004 If your profile is correct, you will have a very high loading on that Raven, that is where you will find your trouble.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
masterrigger1 2 #5 May 24, 2004 Hello, The Crossfire cost to be in complance with the bulletin is $45.00 plus S/H, If that canopy has 600 jumps on it, it is in need of a new line set that will have the update line trim. It's not manditory it's just a good idea if your canopy suffers from the design defect.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. skymedic 0 #7 May 24, 2004 or send it to the MFR. who built the thing and Precision will do it for 50bucks also....but that might be more of a pain to ship to from your location. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
livnbored 0 #8 May 25, 2004 wow, that's a strange comment, I thought that the raven recall was allowed to be fixed by some master riggers/lofts, And the crossfire recall, I'd suggest getting it fixed due to ... well, the collapse issue!! may as well get a new line set anyway. The mirage, prob has velcro riser covers, you may want to look into getting new velcro too...
riggerrob 643 #9 May 25, 2004 Funny, your dilemma sounds like a Crossfire 119 that I inspected last week. A prospective buyer complained about it not flying straight. Its serial number is mentioned in the (B line retrim) Service Bulletin. While the second owner claims that the canopy was relined last year .... bartacks on the AB cascades look original and there is no mention on the data panel. Furthermore B line trim was several centimeters off the numbers published by Icarus. I discussed my findings with Mel from Icarus. Since all the lines look like they have more than 400 jumps, we recommended that the canopy be sent to the Icarus service center in South Carolina to have all the lines replace.
