My first tandem tomo!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm a 22 year old dude, recent college graduate, and long time fan of skydiving. It's something I've always wanted to do, if only once. Well, tomorrow its coming true! My old college roommates from sophmore year wanted to have a reunion and out of nowhere the idea to go skydiving came up. We all jumped on it, and its happening tomorrow.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little nervous. But I'm VERY excited. I've been reading as much safety stuff as I can, but it seems for tandem there isn't a whole lot of advice. Anyone care to offer any?

Thanks!

Depending on what you want out of it, there isn't a whole lot you need to know. The instructor does most of the work, all you have to do is arch and have fun.
If you want to do more than just go for a ride, make sure you talk to the instructor about it. There is a lot you can learn, but unfortunately, a lot of the time the jumper is more a passenger than a student.

Don't worry about being nervous. I'd be more worried if you weren't nervous.;)

Make sure you eat something (not a lot, nor anything real heavy) before you go.

Get video if you can - first timers often experience sensory overload - so much information coming in so quickly that that your brain just shuts off.

Lots more information from when the question was last asked HERE. She was a bit older than you, but the advice is all good.

Don't forget to have fun. Don't be surprised if one isn't enough and you have to go back for more.
And make sure you come back and let everyone know how it went.

I overheard one of the TIs at my DZ saying that "if you are going to puke, puke in your tshirt because if you puke and it goes in my eyes we are going to die"

sounded like good advice to me:ph34r:

Resist the urge to look down to the ground, try to keep your eyes on the horizon and the "ride' will be a whole lot more enjoyable. Before you board the aircraft ask the tadem pilot if you can do the superman, you know arms straight out in front, go up with the notion that your gonna have fun & you will. As soon as you land you'll be signing up for Skydiving training, guarantied

even if your not, pretend to be.

Everything went smooth, I wasnt as nervous as I thought I would be! The instructor went through the safety training rather quickly, but it was easy enough to understand. He was cracking jokes the whole time which certainly made it a lot easier to be relaxed.

It was such a great experience, I can see myself doing it again sometime soon! B|
