Beginner from the Philippines

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I just did my first jump (static line) in Cebu, Philippines two days ago.

To be honest, I don't think I was prepared enough before my jump, and I didn't know what to expect for the landing. I hit the ground harder than I expected and my right arm hurts bad but isn't broken. Should be fine in a week.

I'm not sure if I should try another jump this summer (it's summer here until mid-May, after that it's typhoon season, not good for jumping[:/]). I'm sure my first jump taught me a lot, but I think I need to learn more from people who've done hundreds/thousands of jumps, aside from my instructor.

Anyway, I'm here to ask some questions on how to improve my chances of survival with no injuries next time. Where do I post my questions?

THANKS!

Welcome to the forums! :)
The forums are divided into different categories. If you have training questions, go to Safety and Training but do a search first to see if your question has been answered before.

What did your instructor say about your landing and how you could have prevented your injury?

He says I probably pulled my full "brakes" too early, so I slowed down initially, and then crashed. It certainly felt like it.

Is it possible to land softly without fully engaging the toggles? Since I really don't have the timing right yet, it seems like a better idea to be sure that I'll be landing semi-hard than risking pulling the toggles too far too early, and ending up crashing really hard.
