z1 evo helmet

Recommended Posts

I think they are a nice helmet. The latching system takes a little to figure out how to consitantly get it to unlatch but they are very comfortable. They are semi-flexable so I would not suggest mounting a camera to one but for a freefly helmet they work great.

Well, I ave one and so far I can't really complain, although I'd consider shelling out a few more bucks for a Guner or a RatHat if I had to make the decision again. The Evo is warm and quiet and shock absorption/dispersion seems good enough, although the padding is not really thick. The flat sides should do nicely for camera mounting and the latch on the chin strap is really easy to use.

Only thing that worries me (someone brought it up on this forum not so long ago) is the inner audible pockets. I only use one (and two might be a bit uncomfortable, since the M size I have fits quite snugly), but since the pocket is sewn to the inside lining, not molded into the shell (like with BH helmets), a strong hit in the right spot could possibly result in my Neptune doing some damage to my skull. Although a hit that strong would probably mean I have other things to worry about as well...

Anyway, if you have the option, make sure you try one on. I was considering the Mindwarp, but it didn't fit me as well as the Evo. Of course, one month after I got mine, BH comes out with the Guner, which looks even cooler... Pricks!:P

I've had one for 90 or so jumps, ever since I lost a protrack off the side of a Gath...

The sizes are bizarre - my normal size head is 'XXL', apparently. Unlike other correspondents, I can't feel the protrack. I've stitched the chin strap, as it tended to wander slightly in use.

Older models were notorious for cracking around the chin strap rivets, but the new shells don't seem to do this. I'll buy a new helmet when I get a camera, I think, but keep this for occasional use.

It looks great...is relatively cheap and has internal audible pockets
Reading here I'll agree you deffo need to try one on for size rather than going for your 'regular size'
If you can put your audibles in when sizing
If I did that when I tried it on I would have gone up one size:S as with twop audibles in...its a little uncomfortable.....
But it does feel nice and secure...and I like that

I have had one for over a year..I prefer jumping it over any of my other helmets. It is a bit small when I put both my Protracks in it but not that bad. if you turn the protracks around so the screen is away from your ear there seems to be a bit more comfort and the hearing the audible alarms are improved. I stitched the chin strap in place once I found where I wanted it to be.. before that it did slip a bit but now has not moved in 11 months of jumping.
