Hello from Miami, soon to be Hawaii

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Ralph and I live in Miami and started jumping a couple weeks ago in Homestead FL. Everyone at the DZ is really nice and friendly. I have already completed my AFF and working on my "A license". I have 20 jumps complete and plan on finishing the rest in the next couple of weeks. Skydiving has always been something I wanted to do since I have been 18 and now I am 38 and I finally said "I am not putting this off any longer"! I jumped for the first time 2 weeks ago and I am so upset I waited this long. I am moving to Hawaii next month and plan on buying my own gear. I am hoping to meet some cool friends to jump with out in Hawaii. Any tips for buying gear or any info for a newbie is much appreciated. Thanks

Welcome! yeah skydiving is great, those first 50 or so jumps are really special. I've jumped in Oahu, spectacular! It's quite a drive from Honolulu though, but such a nice drive it doesn't matter. I wish I was moving to Hawaii, I live in the Caribbean anyways though, so it's ok.

Stay safe!

Welcome to the forums! :)
There have been quite a few threads on the site that address the issue of buying gear. I think most people would tell you to buy used gear when you're first starting out because you'll probably want to downsize again after another 50 or so jumps.

Windy, you'll be lucky to get 2 jumps in before it picks up. Stay out of the wind shadow behind the trees in the northern portion of the field. dont post an incident on the internet forums unless you know what you are talking about. The people who need to know, know. The people who don't...you get the idea. Respect their privacy please. Welcome to hawaii.
