ChrisL 2 #1 June 8, 2004 Howdy, I've seen a few people using these and cant seem to find out where to get some. They are simply additional fabric to pull over your forearms to generate more drag. Who makes them? Chris__ My mighty steed
diablopilot 2 #2 June 8, 2004 I know that www.flitesuit.com will make them.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
TALONSKY 0 #3 June 8, 2004 You can also get them from Tonysuit. At www.tonysuits.com Kirk
johnny1488 1 #4 June 8, 2004 I got them with my bev suit when I got it 4 years ago. Im not endorsing them, just that I got them. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
darkwing 5 #5 June 8, 2004 I suspect that many local riggers make them. No real tricks are required. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
peek 21 #6 June 8, 2004 Chris and group, 1. Can anyone really believe that such a thing will increase drag enough to make much of a difference? 2. Does anyone have any scientific evidence that it does? 3. Can anyone believe that a jumpsuit manufacturer would hesitate to market such an item without scientific basis? My belief is that even with the abundance of those audible altimeter/fall rate recording thingies (which by the way provide questionable data at best), that no one has ever went up on two skydives, one with these forearm covers and one without [by themselves for the specific purpose of obtaining data on this]. Without this data it's all pure speculation. Furthermore I am convinced that no one is a good enough skydiver to not influence the outcome of such jumps by intentionally or unintentionally changing their body position on these jumps. I suspect that an inch variation on body postion would change the fall rate much more than these forearm covers. ref: www.pcprg.com/baro.htm
anthonylock 0 #7 June 8, 2004 I don't have any scientific data on them but I was borrowing a fast suit during my warp coaching and it was too fast for me, to i put some of those on and they helped.... but not enough so i ended up waring a long sleived top over the suit... which did the trick. When I came to buy a jump suit I opted for the slow suit type which comes with baggy arms as standard.
darkwing 5 #8 June 8, 2004 There is something to be said for the placebo effect. I'm also sure you will agree that they make a difference, the only question you ask is how much of a difference. I think it would be pretty easy to make drag measurements in the back of a pickup truck. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
philly51 0 #9 June 8, 2004 Chris, I bought these with under 100 jumps and they seemed to help. It must have been my jump suit shrinking in the closet and not the 10 lbs I gained. Got a new suit, better fit ( looser and polycotton) which really helped, Per Bev, it's for the older jumper with a lower center of gravity. ltdiver 3 #10 June 13, 2004 Check out skydiver Shirley Pelland's web site. She's a world record holder and the only one we all go to at Perris for jumpsuit accessories and repair. riggerrob 643 #11 June 13, 2004 Yes, Shirley is great! Shirley helped me install larger wings on a camera suit when it "no longer allowed me to film the lighter students." How's that for a euphemism?
steve1 5 #12 June 17, 2004 I also got my slow sleeves from Shirley. Since I'm several lbs. heavier this year, I use them all the time. They definitely do make a difference....Steve1
