Javelin rigging question.

Recommended Posts

I have a customers Javelin J-3 manufactured in February of 1991 in for a repack. The top flap on the reserve (the flap that covers the pin and holds the data card) needs the clear plastic replaced. It is cracked. Can anyone tell me what the specs are on that plastic and/or where I can get some? I checked para-gear, but can't seem to find a match.
Thanks

Contact the good folks at Sunpath they are helpful and will be able to help you out. Order some hard housings from them last week, very easy to deal with. Their website is http://www.sunpath.com/ and telephone is 813 782 9242.

You'll find it very difficult to put the binding tape back in place after replacing just the plastic. To see what it might be like, you can experiment with plastic stiffener sheet from your local fabric store.

Unless an exact faded color match is important to your customer, I think you're better off replacing the whole flap with a new one from Sunpath. It isn't hard, but you will need a master rigger ticket, a straight-stitch machine, and a machine to do the three bar-tacks at the top of the flap.

Yes.
I have repaired a bunch of early Javelins after the clear plastic cracked.
Newer Javelins are made with more durable grey MDS Nylatron or MDS plastic.
Last year Aggie mailed me a new reserve pin protector flap and a stack of plastic stiffeners for older Javelins.
Unless you have a double-needle sewing machine with an expensive folder adjusted specifically for thick materials, you are better off buying complete pin protectors from Sun Path.
