Bridle protection mod

Recommended Posts

Looking at purchasing a used rig with a '98 javelin j4 container. Current owner says bridle between right flap and BOC pouch is not protected. However, it does have riser tuck tabs.

Can a modification be done to the jav to protect the bridle? If so, anyone have an idea on cost for this?

I just want to be sure of the rig I purchase so that I can have confidence while experimenting with freeflying.

(PS: I already did a search and could not find specific info I was looking for.)

I used to have that exact setup you mention. Basically, all a rigger will have to do is sew a strip of cordura along the right side of the bottom flap, so it forms a tight fitting pocket from under the right flap to opposed to the BOC. Just route the bridle in there.
Not sure whether this can be done by any rigger though (or if it has to be a Master rigger).

Edit: Damn, got beat to it!!:P

my 93 jav is just like that, and my rigger said he would charge $30 to sew the flap on. but he also said my boc pouch was too far away from where the flap would be, so he would have to move it closer, costing additional $$$.
just a heads up in case sunpath tells you the same thing.

Those models of the Javelin do have about 2.5 inches of exposed bridal running from the flap to the BOC. You can also consider velcro to hold the exposed bridal to the container. If you're still concerned about it, have the bridal cover installed as well. The velcro will hold tight with the bridal cover for additonal cosmetics/protection. I have one of these myself.

An additonal concerm when freeflying is having a worn out BOC pouch that allows the pilot chute to be pushed out by the wind hitting it in sit fly.

But of course, seek qualified rigging advice, preferably one with heavy freefly experience and exposure to the related concerns.

Sagging, wrinkled, old BOCs are fashion faux pas in any style of skydiving. Things just go wrong faster when sit-flying.
