Wings vs. Infinity

Recommended Posts

Hey boys and girls. Just curious on peoples opinions on the two containers. Infinity is local. I could get a better deal on the Wings. Also, I've heard Wings has some birdman options which is something I will be hopefully doing a lot. What are the bad and good things for both?

I jump an Infinity (with a wingsuit; no mods to the container) and I love it. I have friends who love their Wings. I think either one is a good choice.

You'll get a new Infinity faster than a new Wings, and having VSE local to you is a strong point in their favor. Both companies do an excellent job of customer service.

About the only people I would specifically recommend a Wings over an Infinity to are those with short torsos and big canopies. The Wings is a shorter rig top to bottom than the Infinity with the same size canopies in it, so it may be a better choice if you're "not tall" and jumping bigger canopies.

Did you read the reviews in the gear section?
Did you do a search? There are already tons of opinions on these exact systems in this forums, not becessarily necessary to repeat them...

That said, they are both excellent rigs, i have a Wings and love it, but from what i read here, Infinity owners are very likely to say the same.

My reasons for the Infinity over the wings:

1) Nice looking design.

2) Riser covers: including secondary covers that blend into the design well.

3) Harness fit and geometry: The Infinity is the most comfortable harness I've owned.

4) Reputation

5) Order accuracy.

6) Customer service durring and after the sale.

7) I like Kelly. He's a cool guy.

8) Riser design: I like the VSE mini riser vith the velcroless design Kelly has and the integrated hard housings.

9) Very rigger friendly.

You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Chrisky you are such the search police ;)
You and Ivan have commonalities.:D

Kim , if I Lived where you live, I'd go with the Infinity no question. It's a great rig and super freefly friendly. It's rigger and packer friendly as well.

The Way the riser covers are designed, makes a lot of sense. They work great. The main and reserve cover flaps are nice and tight. That's major plus.

Wings is good. I'm less of a fan because it's a pop top but the newer design of the rig is nice. There's a bunch of them out the DZ I jump at.

I've hung in my Harness from 13000 feet many times and the comfort was great. I jumped a wings this past weekend to test out my friends canopy and it was comfortable too.

Infinity would be my first choice, wings would be second. In fact, when I chose Infinity, I was looking at Wings as well. Price didn't matter because I could get the same deal on them.

Hope that helps.

Got into the searching habit myself and found it to be much more instantly gratifying than waiting for people to post.
Especially since i guess people don't like to post the same stuff over and over again, so you tend to wait even longer...
But you're right, i have to admit that... I can be quite a bugger!:P
Everybody got a gear check yet? :P:P

Kelly can do a lot of things that aren't on the order form.

Being so close to the mfg is a significant advantage.

I have a Wings and I LOVE it! My next rig, will be a Wings too. I like the way it fits me and it's very comfortable. I like the options available and the price, as well as the customer service from Sunrise Rigging. I also like the design and the look of it.

My boyfriend owns 2 wings as well which he loves. :)
I have personally not tried the Infinity. I have heard good things about them. The only complaint I heard is that it is very stiff and can be rather uncomfortable on your back. I guess a lot would depend on how you are built, and if the rig is custom built for you.

Getting new stuff is fun. Good luck!

I was looking at the same two containers in which you are looking and when it came down to the final call I chose Infinity. Reasons? I have been in constant communication with Kelly before, during and even after my rig was built. The rig fits awesome, and over all the design seems simple. There....in my newbie eyes.....doesnt seem like there is a lot for me to complicate things. It packs nicely and looks pissa.

Yes,
For example, the most comfortable shoulder yoke I have ever worn was an Infinity, custom built for a guy slightly bigger than me. The Infinity yoke fit my shoulders flawlessly.

Only when they are new like every rig. It takes time for the cordura to loosen up and let everything bend the right way. THis is true for every rig out there. Think back to when you got your rig. and how it felt and fit you.Now think about the way it feels today. I bet it is much more comfortable now.

I considered this a feature, not a bug, when I chose Infinity. YMMV, which is why it's good to demo stuff, but I liked the way the Infinity felt solid on my back and in my hands.

Some people recommended Racer to me, and on wearing one for a bit I admitted the spine area was very comfortable for me (although my rigger sat in the corner whining about having to pack it, because he's a weenie about that ;)), but it was _too_ flexible between the main and reserve containers and I got the heebies.

Just me. :)

Hey Kim-

Told Ya so!:P

the one thing I do like about wings is the geometry of the articulated harnesses-

as a rigger -I've closed both reserve containers- Give me an infinity. I don't like how the reserve container on the smaller wings closes.

Like everyone already said, Kelly is a super guy and he was very generous when I asked him for a team discount for Brain and I. I guess I might be biased.

I bought three Wings rigs before I got a sponsorship deal with them.

My new ones have all the bells and whistles, the articulation, the cut-in laterals, bright stainless, tye-die, etc.

Know who is giving you advice, and whether they are getting a deal from the manufacturer they are recommending.

I've provided the bulk of the photography that Wings has used recently, and they have taken care of my gear needs in return.

That said, try an articulated Wings rig on with the cut in laterals, and then try on the Infinity with similar options. I've found so much more flexibility with the laterals that I can fly deeper on tandem videos. It's a remarkable option.

If the Infinity is a better fit and is more comfortable, buy it. I doubt it, though. I've now owned 5, and loved each of them.

Cheers!

Oh! I've got the birdman mods and the new bags on the new ones, and they are absolutely dynamite! The new bag design makes for a very clean deployment!

Are you talking about the stows on top of the the bag instead of the sides or is there a newer design?

You should research you post first...and see what the WINGS EXT is about.
So for i've jumped the Wings for over 8000 jumps and I HAVE tried them all. No question in my opinion: WINGS!

Easy choice, Infinity hands down. I'm getting my second soon. A no-brainer if you're local (even if you're not). You'll find Kelly and Jeff are the best guys around both professionally and personally. The rigs are terrific. Their prices are great. They have about the fastest production times around. They absolutely stand behind their work. Did I mention that I prefer Infinity rigs?

Okay, educate me. How would a container planform that is longer top to bottom - like the Wings EXT compared to the standard Wings - benefit someone with a short torso who jumps larger canopies?

The Longer, Sleeker Wings!
The Wing EXT series is specifically designed for taller jumpers (generally 5'10" and up) who either:
A) fly small (under 120 square foot) high performance mains but like the security of a larger reserve (i.e.: 75 Velocity and a Raven-M 135),

OR

B) have fairly large main and reserve canopies but still need a longer container, to ensure that the BOC deployment handle is in the right place (not too high up on his/her back).

We can accommodate just about any combination of canopies possible. 200 square foot reserve and a 109 square foot main? Not a problem! We can build a Wings or Wings EXT that will be perfect for you and your canopies!

-----------------------------------------------------------

You were saying that the only ones you would recommend the wings to is someone with a short torso. So Colon said that the wings EXT is an option for all the other persons.
When we get an order in we will obviusly check the measurments and if it's someone with a short torso, a regular wings it is. And if it's someone that is not within the normal standards we will simply make a special pattern.
Wings has over 30 container sizes. From long to short.
What people usually get wrong is that the EXT isa totally diffrent container but it's not.
It's simlpy a longer and sleeker container.
But it's not for someone with a short torso.
This container is for tall people that are jumping small canopies.
We also has a special options that we implement when a small girl orders.
Normally a tiny tiny girl would get maybe an xs or small yoke, but henri came up with an xs legstrap option. Wich brings the container down and shortens
it form the bottom instead.
So this way you get rid of the annoying chest strap right over your boobs...

If there is anything else you want to find out, I'm availible for questions.
