skymiles 3 #4 July 20, 2004 Not at all – that is a good wing loading for you. Just keep in mind you could easily down size to a Sabre2- 150 in 200-400 jumps so I would consider buying used first. I just noticed you’ve been in the sport 12 years and have 83 jumps. Is that correct? If so, stay with the 170. Phil
skybytch 273 #5 July 20, 2004 QuoteNot at all – that is a good wing loading for you. Have you seen him land? Do you know where he jumps? Do you know what size and type canopies he's been jumping and how he's been landing them? If not, then how can you say that's a good wing loading for him? He may have old injuries to protect, he may be not so close to 18 anymore, he may have a job he can't do with a broken leg, he may not want to go real fast under canopy, etc, etc, etc. There are too many variables involved to flat out tell someone with 80 jumps over 10+ years that a 1.14ish wingloading will be good for them. octo 0 #6 July 22, 2004 Hi, I have pretty much the same question : I'm considering buying a Sabre 2 or a PdF Electra. I'm hesitating between size 210 and 190. My total weight (equipped) is 85 kg or 188 lbs (let's say 190), and I will have 100+ jumps in a few weeks. I think I'll do almost 100 jumps per year. I'm quite conservative, but don't want to be hanged under a sluggish canopy during all the way down. Flying against the wind is important too... I've heard that a PdF Electra would be smaller than a same sized PD Sabre 2. PdF 210 equivalent to PD 190 ? This makes a big difference in terms of wing loading... Thanks. Just for useful information, I fly a sabre 190 with a hanging weight of 190 lb. I get plenty out of it and it does't feel a bit sluggish. Plenty of penetration on moderately windy days. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
dusm12 0 #8 July 24, 2004 ...about downsizing...two main issues more altitude loss in turns and probably need a longer runway. ask urself, can u land ur current one with confidence/ accuracy. ESPECIALLY OFF DZ.
octo 0 #9 August 8, 2004 Very good question. The answer is : more or less... I still screw up sometimes, so I decided not to downsize : 210 will be fine for me, at least for my first main. Anyway, my problem is not downsizing, but finding a canopy from another manufacturer (PD, Aerodyne, or Icarus) having the same surface as an Electra : Indeed, according to several posts, I suspect a Sabre 2 210 being about one size bigger, as well as a Safire2 or a Pilot would be ... Has anyone some infos about such an equivalence ? Thanks. Blue skies,
