mr2mk1g 10 #1 July 26, 2004 A drunken painted lady decided it would be fun to roll around on our windblade whilst it was stored under some packing tables at a recent event. We were not nearly so amused. Anyone know how to get body paint off a windblade / canopy material? It appears to be made from ZP and the effected area spans red and (more visibly) white areas of the windblade. Someone must have had to clean a stain of a canopy before… what’s best? Obviously as it’s not a safety concern we could be a bit more vigorous with it, but that’s not to say we want to wreck the thing… it was somewhat expensive. cheers
Nightingale 0 #2 July 26, 2004 it would depend on the kind of paint.
mr2mk1g 10 #3 July 26, 2004 We're in the process of finding out precisely what chemical it was. All we know at the moment is that it was simply washable body paint. Apparently the instructions for removal (from your body) were to wash in warm water. A friend already tried that and with the result of spreading the stain around and reportedly making it worse. riggerrob 643 #4 July 26, 2004 Try calling Chris Kelly at Wind Signs, seeing as how Wind Signs owns the patent on Air Blades and has sewn more wind blades than everyone else combined.
Nightingale 0 #5 July 26, 2004 this is what I found on "washable body paint stain removal" "With the thumb and forefinger of each hand slowly work the stain in a rolling action thereby releasing the paint and colour into the soapy water. Change the water as necessary and repeat washing action. DO NOT USE HOT WATER. Some stubborn stains may need to be soaked overnight. Derivan Face & Body Paint is formulated so that it will swell up and release when submerged in soapy water. Other methods of cleaning will generally only act to drive the stain in deeper. Do not boil, dry-clean or use chemical solvents or thinners. Do not iron over a stain. Do not machine wash. Keep stained garments separate from other washing." dunno if that'll help. mr2mk1g 10 #6 July 26, 2004 Cheers, we'll give that a go. As for contacting Chris Kelly - looking at the website I have a feeling that's where the committee bought the blade from in the first place. I've already suggested that someone contact the manufacturer so we'll see what he says. I'm just trying to cast the net a little wider and see what things have been done in the past. This can't have been the first time ZP got mucky.
hottamaly 1 #7 July 26, 2004 I work for Chris Kelly making wind blades and they are washable. You can through it in the washing machine (cold water) and then hang dry. If the stains are still there, we us a product called Peckerin. I'm not sure about the spelling though. Good luck. mr2mk1g 10 #14 July 28, 2004 She was wearing a string bikini (also painted) and that was it. It didn't always stay put that reliably. She was more than just drunk. We are far from amused with the mess she made of the blade. This was its first bogie and it was rather expensive.
masterrig 1 #15 July 28, 2004 Tell her, she has to replace it. She has to be responsible for her own actions. It went beyond 'funny', when she ruined your wind-blade. Chuck
meatbomb 0 #16 July 29, 2004 Easier said than done...we're talking about a collegiate boogie here, so likely this person is even more broke than your average skydiver...--- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies
masterrig 1 #17 July 29, 2004 Well, that makes a difference. Seems strange that she can afford to skydive and get drunk but, she just doesn't have the money to replace a windblade she ruined. Chuck
