larskjargaard 0 #1 August 9, 2004 What is the high end wing load of a spectre 135? I'm looking for a canopy to put in my container because I'm scared to use my velocity with my birdsuit. The only reason I ask is that I have no clue how much of a load can be put on a spectre.
ianmdrennan 2 #2 August 9, 2004 http://www.performancedesigns.com/spectre.htm I'm sure it can be loaded higher, but here's a starting point. Blues, IanPerformance Designs Factory Team
AggieDave 6 #3 August 9, 2004 Please note, this is just my personal opinion, please stick to the recommended wingloadings from the manufacture. I jumped a 150 a couple times loaded at 1.9:1. It flew like total shit, waaaay overloaded. I've jumped one loaded at about 1.6:1 before and it flew quite well, pretty zippy, still had a good flare and a decent surf. I've jumped one loaded in the 1.3:1 range and it flew really nicely.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." RyanofOZ 0 #4 August 9, 2004 I jump one at 1.2 and love it. As stated above, I have heard bad things about them loaded above 1.6 but in my vast experiance (38 jumps) I can only really talk about my own canopy.Oz
migliore 0 #5 August 10, 2004 I've got my 150 loaded at 1.4 and it also flies great, nice & zippy. Shane
DancingFlame 0 #6 August 10, 2004 I demoed Spectre-135 at ~1.3 W/L, it flew really fine!
nacmacfeegle 0 #7 August 10, 2004 I load my 170 at about 1.6, in fact, its probably the one that Dave has flown at about 1.6. Flies nicely, quite crisp and zippy, I don't swoop, but it can be fun, without being too serious. I feel I can put it down wherever I want in terms of accuracy, awkward out landings etc, and have put it down cross and down wind, with reasonable results, just a little less dignified than my usual arrivals.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Deuce 1 #8 August 10, 2004 I fly the 150 at 1.6 and I flew a 170 before that, so I've got nearly 1000 jumps on Spectre's. If you crank up the front risers it swoops pretty good. Bridgette Liss (?) did swoop competition with the teeniest version, I think. Mad John Dobleman swoops the pond regularly with his. And like NacMac says, when you need to put it down in a freeway cloverleaf, the Spectre lets you do that too. Great for casual CRW, too.
larskjargaard 0 #9 August 10, 2004 on a 135 i'd be 1.62 which is about as big as I can go in my container.
Deuce 1 #10 August 10, 2004 I just redid the math, and in Winter I'm about 1.7 with my cold weather clothes and the heaviest camera setup I wear. All my experience is Spectre, so I can't compare. But I don't have problems with the canopy at that high loading, and I regularly jump at DZ's at differing altitudes. I recently did a bunch of Birdman jumps, and didn't get a single line twist with the Spectre and my new Wings containers with the Birdman mods.
BBKid 0 #11 August 11, 2004 Why not have a look at the Omni by Icarus. One of the camera flyers at my dropzone had one, loaded at 1.58, and that thing really moved!
