ianmdrennan 2 #26 August 26, 2004 Speeds are also average speeds for that altitude range (stated on their website). If you're moving up and down on a group your speeds will differ. In addition speed readings can easily vary, especially when the unit is placed in a helmet - head movement can create different pressure readings. Speed skydivers get false speed readings all the time (and they use protrack) which is why they now place the units on their harness. As for the audible part, I'd contact Alti-2 immediately. flyhi 24 #27 August 26, 2004 Quote I had a Neptune LCD crack on me, so it can happen, but Pro-Tracks have done that in the past as well. Did you use it as a wrist altimeter without the backplate? I called them once and that was the first and last thing the mentioned to me. My experience; battery dead after less than six months stopped on the climb to altitude and would not reset until I took the battery out and reinserted it added a jump which I did not make and I did not notice until I had made another jump. No way to go back and erase a jump other than the last one, had to erase two and reenter the number and time in the Summary Log once recorded two jumps on one jump All of that being said, I really like it. I like the information it provides, I like the display format, I like the switch from freefall to canopy mode, I like the ease of operation. All things considered, I'm glad I bought it.Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

Nope, it was setup with the backplate with the wrist/finger ring mount.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." I sent my Neptune in at the beginning of this season because I botched the firmware upgrade and when it came back, the backplate had been removed. I was a little concerned, but I figured since the factory did it... About three weeks ago the screen cracked. I gave it to Alti-2 at the Rantoul and they are fixing it for free, but it'll be over a month without my altimeter by the time I get it back.
BlueEyedMonster 0 #30 September 1, 2004 **The newer wrist mounts do not use backplates. **Average Speeds..Depends on mounting location and how each person has their Neptune setup to log speeds (you can store up to 4 different settings) But it is accurate. I have done a comparison with the Max speed logged on my vigil. They are within a few mph of eachother. **If you can't hear an alarm, I'll bet you use an open face helmet. Sometimes the wind noise just drowns the alarm out. But the alarm cannot be made louder because it will cause hearing damage. more: http://www.alti-2.com/Neptune_Owners_Home.htm#Alarm_Sound_Level_ **Batteries cost $2.50 at wal-mart or you can get them for under $2 online. Buy a 10 pack and keep them in your bag. Personally I am happy that they used a cheap off-the-shelf battery. I would rather replace it after a few months than pay $20 to replace a specially built battery every year. **Updates Updates Updates. If you do not have the newest software, please get it. Its free, and your local Field Rep can update your neptune if you don't want to or don't know how. **You know those bruises you get on your jumps, but you don't remember hitting anything. I think thats exactly how the cracked screens might happen. If you are wearing your Neptune on your wrist, check with your dealer. Screen protectors and armor should seriously be considered. http://www.alti-2.com/accessories.htm
ManBird 0 #31 September 1, 2004 I'd use three if I had the money. One as my visual, one as my audible, and one in my front pants pocket that I'd use as my logbook (which is what I do with my ProTrack now). Great product. A lot of people look at the update frequency as a bad thing. To me, it just means that they're hard at work in keeping up with modern skydiving."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
sng2k 0 #32 September 9, 2004 I really like my neptune. I have only jumped it twice, but it seems to be accurate as far as speeds go. So far, no problems to report. I hope it stays that way.
Jimbo 0 #33 September 9, 2004 QuoteBoth companies have good products, both companies have great customer service. I just think the Neptune is a better product for the following reasons: 1. EASY to use. 2. Dive Profiles that are easy to switch. 3. Logbook that records what profile you used with a time/date stamp. 4. Water proof for that occasional stupid human swoop trick. 5. Can be used as a visual or audible. 6. Because the software is easily upgradable, the manufacturer can fix bugs and add new functionality without massive product recalls or the release of the "Neptune +", or "Neptune 2.0", or . . . well, you get the idea. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. tspillers 0 #34 September 9, 2004 Quote Another thing about my Neptune....... the speeds are almost always off. Do they all have the current software udates? I am not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example.
bigbearfng 18 #35 September 10, 2004 I recently bought a Neptune also. Only "problem" has been something that only effects a few folks, and has a "work around". I jump at Perris and live in Big Bear (7000ft elev.) So after leaving Perris for the day and driving home, it senses it as a slow ascent and will stay on untill I "clear" it; either by to man. mode and back or I'm at dz. Then it'll 30min cycle off. Then repeat after going down the hill back to Perris.
lewmonst 0 #36 September 10, 2004 I LOVE MY NEPTUNE! Really. I was very against digital when Digitudes were the only thing around, then I was pressured into trying the neptune even though I wasn't interested in digital... I am so glad I did. I LOVE IT. It's so easy to use. Get the latest update. If you're in Perris, find Ed, he'll update it for you for free and replace your velcro strap if needed. Alti-2 ROCKS! peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
