FT 50 altimeters

Recommended Posts

I have an FT 50 altimeter that I bought from Square 1, Perris, California about 18 months ago. I need to get it fixed as it has become inacurate. I live in the UK does anyone know where I can send it to get it repaired.

Cheers,
Ifan

I think you have to send it to the manufacturer, and I think they're in France (at least that's what I've heard). I bought a used one from someone and it was so inaccurate that I gave it back and got my money back. Buy a galaxy instead.

Guess I got lucky. I bought one in '93 and replaced it with a Neptune in January. It still works reliably. I like them because they are lightweight. The Neptune is even better.

I am educated guessing that it would cost the value of the altimeter ($50) to send it in, get it back and have it repaired.

I bought a Viplo FT50 last year. It appeared to work fine for the 4 jumps I made at the end of 2010. Jumped it again in February this year and the needle stuck at 9,000ft. On reaching the ground it had dropped to 7,000ft and by the time I had walked back to the packing shed it still showed me at 3,000ft. Passed the alti to the pilot who took it up and confirmed it was busted. This is a major problem in itself, as you can imagine, so I emailed Viplo and wrote to them in France a number of times but they have failed to reply. Bought a Galaxy instead and no problems (so far). Mate bought a Viplo a couple of years back and the face fell off in mid-air. Viplo did fix it for him tho!

Several years ago I sank my FT-60 in the sea. I get in touch with Stephane from Viplo ,sent it to him. He repaired it and I have used ever since! My advice is: just get in touch with factory, and they do the rest.I'm very satisfied of their customer service.
Good luck!
Rado
