Hearing a Neptune Alarm

Recommended Posts

Made my pre-second dive today with a new parasport z1 evo sti and a new neptune. Helment has built in port fot audible, looks great. But here is the kicker, I can not hear alarms during freefall. Can hear harddeck alarm under canopy. Did same on 2nd dive....Ques is has anybody ran into this and what did they do to fix this short of cutting up a brand new helment liner. Thanks, Bob

My Neptune is pretty loud (when it's working). A Couple of things. Make sure you have the audible in your helmet so the back of the altimeter faces your ear. That's the side that has the speaker. Theres a small hole with a copper color in it (that's the speaker). Also, with Z1s there's usually fabric or padding that is between your ear and the audible and it makes it less loud. The more direct path between your ear and the hole (speaker) in the back, the louder it will be. Hope that helps.

The Z1 also has internal audible pockets. Put it in one of those and try it. Mine's so loud I make sure the speaker is facing away from my ear so it doesn't hurt. The internal pockets aren't as convenient as the external one, but probably safer and you can get it in and out quickly with a little practice.

The big question is why does a Z1 with an extra hole in it cost more than a standard Z1? :)

1st Make sure the speaker is pointing toward your ear.

2nd. The alarms are just as loud as the other audibles. They cannot be any louder without causing ear damage.

I have had the same experience you had with my EVO/Neptune/Dytter sit flying. The helmut is just that loud. If I'm standing or sitting, I can hear neither the Neptune or the Dytter.

I'm back to my full face.
