smurf 0 #1 August 30, 2004 I have a Mirage G4 MXS and the d-bag seems to be way to large(it's definetely quite a bit bigger than the container). I actually compared it to a G4 MT d-bag and they were the same size. The rig was ordered for my current canopy(crossfire2-89), however it says that the rig is supposed to hold a regular 9-cell 107-120. I thought MXS was the smallest Mirage rig? Btw what's the normal force required to pull the bag out of the container(on my rig it required a pull of almost 30lbs)? I've been having pilot chute hesitations on probably 75% of my jumps(only have 25 jumps on the rig yet) and I'm using a 24" zp pilot chute.
grega 0 #2 August 30, 2004 maybe you should check if you got the right d-bag. it's written somewhere on the bag for which size it is. on mine it sais MT (i have G4.1 size MT). i have cobalt comp. 120 in it (in manual it sais it's packed tight), and it is tight. it needs about 15lbs to open the container and about 5-10 lbs to pull the bag out. I can't lift the rig by bridle, and that's good enough for me. If i can lift the closed rig by the bridle, then it's too tight. if it opens before if leaves the ground it's good, well for me at least. maybe others have more strict rules.. ? about pilot chute hesitations... since you changed the pilot chute (as far as i know mirage only sells low porosity-f111 pilot chutes and not ZP) maybe you should check how much force does your pilot chute produce. On a highway from a car at 100 mph... What is more likely is that your bridle is somehow stuck somewhere. Be sure that you close the container as it's in the manual (it's also drawn on the bottom of last flap on your container)... make sure that the bridle goes over the flap #4 and not one the left side of it. I'm packing exactly like in manual and i don't have any hesitation and i did about 400 jumps on mine."George just lucky i guess!"
smurf 0 #3 August 30, 2004 The bag says MXS. I tried to put a Stiletto-120 in the bag and it fit easily. Getting the stuffed bag in the container wasn't quite as easy. I changed the pilotchute because the original one(28' f-111)was so large it took about 20lbs to pull it straight out of the BOC. I suppose the 28' pulls with more force(at least when it's brand new), but I thought all pc's had enough drag to pull the pin and extract the bag on any regular rig? I'm closing the rig like the manual says. I wonder if this can be a problem with small rigs in particular. A friend of mine has a small Wings and he has had the same problem. I borrowed his rig for a jump and had to reach back and pull on the bridle itself because the pc was just hanging there like a drogue :(
grega 0 #4 August 30, 2004 i had the same problem with pulling pilot chute out of the boc, because boc was super tight when brand new. which is actually good thing in freefal. so i just figured out a way how to pack my pilot chute so i can extract it more easily. yeah mine bag also seems a bit large. i can easily put my cobalt comp. 120 in my bag, but when the container is closed it's very tight. they probably just use a little bigger bag for ease of packing, but you have to folow the manual. because you might stuff the canopy in the bag, but it won't fit in the container... ? i'm not sure, just guessing."George just lucky i guess!" diablopilot 2 #5 August 30, 2004 QuoteI've been having pilot chute hesitations on probably 75% of my jumps(only have 25 jumps on the rig yet) and I'm using a 24" zp pilot chute. Why? AFAIK Mirage containers come with a 30" or larger F-111 type P/C. IMO nothing smaller than a 28" ZP is neaded anyway. A 24" is too small. Mirage Main D-Bags are build a slight bit biger than the container. The flaps compress the bag for a snug fit, it's probably not causing your hesitation. Are you following the MFG instructins for loading and closing the container? The bag is shaped so that it only goes in one way. Are you leaving enough slack in your lines? 18" to 24" should do. Are you throwing the pilotchute well away from your body? Many beople get lazy about their throw after a while because the "get away with it".---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
