popsjumper 2 #1 September 12, 2004 I just got a new Neptune and to download info from it requires an IR connection. Not being highly computer-literate, I don't know what kind of IR connection to buy for it. I have a Dell 8250 running Windows XP Home. There's no IR port but I have extra USB ports. The guys at CompUSA aren't very helpful except in a general sense, Any recommendations on what IR hardware would work best for the Neptune-to-PC data exchange? Thanks in advance...My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. dragon2 2 #2 September 12, 2004 Any usb or serial infrared adapter will do. For setting it up, look at the Alti-2 site: http://www.alti-2.com/troubleshooting_ir_connection.htm To download info from your neptune, you need Paralog: http://www.alti-2.com/paralog.htm ciel bleu, Saskia
jerry81 10 #3 September 12, 2004 You just need a simple USB-IR adapter, which shouldn't cost more than 50$. Then you need to setup a virtual COM port on it, which is really much easier than it sounds. (Link to the driver is on Alti-2's Neptune owners page.) After that you're set to update your Neptune or download to Paralog.
popsjumper 2 #4 September 12, 2004 Thanks dragon2 and Jerry81... I already installed Paralog and the irComm2A driver (comm port set-up done) as per the Neptune's owner's manual (I'm one of those RTFM people). Now to go get a basic USB IR sensor.... Thanks againMy reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239

I wouldn't pay more than $20. Do a search on any shopping website (yahoo or ebay or whatever) for "usb to irda"
EdC 0 #6 September 17, 2004 This is the one I use for my neptune. Also read this thread about my experience installing an IR adapter on to my old compaq pc. Good luck. Big Ed
