justinb138 0 #1 September 16, 2004 I'll hopfully be getting my A in a few weeks, and have been looking at a few possibilites for canopies when I finally get the cash to buy my own gear. I've been looking at the Silhouette 230, and was wondering how it compares to the Aerodyne Solo at a WL of about 1:1. Anyone flown both?
Nightingale 0 #2 September 16, 2004 I've never flown the Aerodyne, but I can tell you that the silhouette is an awesome canopy.
Fab 0 #3 September 16, 2004 I have flown a silhouette 190...It's a very nice canopy...A Silhouette is placed one categorie higher then the Solo here in the Netherlands which means you have to have more jumps to fly the silhouette then the solo. This means the Silhouette will probably be more fun to fly...is more responsive...etc.. The Solo is considered to be a student chute...the silhouette is not. I don't know the solo. In my humble opinion..the silhouette will be a very good choice for a first canopy...so will the Pilot from aerodyne. Silhouette has also got a very good flare...lands very easy.. I have only flown skymasters,zp.exe, pilot and a silhouette so my experience with different chutes is somewhat limited :) _______________________________________
JJohnson 0 #4 September 16, 2004 The Silhouette is a damn fine canopy. Fun to fly, easy to pack. As a hybrid zp/F111 it may be hard to sell later on down the line though. Keep the wingloading at 1:1 and it will be fine for you.JJ "Call me Darth Balls"
PhreeZone 20 #5 September 16, 2004 I've loaded hybrids up to about 1.5 and they land just fine.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Ruffles 0 #6 September 17, 2004 What Nighting said, love mine too. Turns fast but doesn't dump altitude like the regular full-on-ellipticals. I'm starting to see the Silhouette get mentioned on here quite frequently recently... I must have started a trend...
JJohnson 0 #7 September 17, 2004 I mentioned the wingloading because of his jump numbers. An A license shouldn't be loading up to 1.5. But now that you mention it, I noticed a definite loss of flare on my Sil once I gained some weight. At about 1.3 I thought the flare was losing something.JJ "Call me Darth Balls"
