Beat me to it. Poor gatr. So. Would I be a cannibal if I ate said gatr? :)

I heard a little blurb on the news the other day. I'm not sure where it took place or even if it's true. but supposedly somebody was trying to burglarize a home through the chimney .and the homeowner little fire and it killed him. That's a darwin candidate for sure
i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . My response. Naw I wasn't low I'm just such a big guy I look closer than I really am .

Yeah, in California. Got stuck in the chimney and couldn't get out. Homeowner had no idea until he started a fire in the fireplace. THEN the screaming started.

What a terrible way to go, as gator food. [:/]

We saw one last Spring when hiking in the Everglades. 12, 13'? I didn't go up to it with a tape measure to make sure. When you realize those big bastards can outrun you it makes you really, really want to keep your distance. A high powered rifle would be nice too.

Gatr. 30 mph in short bursts. 22ca. is all you need if you get the head shot. ;) I'd prefer the 50.ca. myself. Or a roll of duct tape if you have the cajones.

I would never have guessed:S

We called em snappers in our family... since we grew up with em. The spring we used to swim in had an outflow to the river where the water was dark from the tannins in the water from the Cypress. You did not swim down in the river... you swam in the crystal clear spring water so you could see what was lurking. We learned from a very early age that at night you did not go in the spring ... since that was where a rather large old cow liked to feed. She usually built her nest down about 100 yards from the spring..Everyone around there left her be so there would be a ready supply of little ones around and they are tasty...

Edited to add the piccie to try to keep idiots from doing stupid shit

I walked on down to the spring.. and went swimming in the spring with a couple cousins... October 2015.

No, the chimney was plugged up and smoke was getting in the house.

Exactly. I'd be going WTF! SHIT and put the fire out, and then look up the flue, and probably see shoes, and then FUCK! :D

No, I haven't. I don't know if I'd want to kill something majestic like that. I'm perfectly happy to be living under an illusion. Then again, no one has ever invited me to go. So I actually don't know.

But I love the flavor of the meat.

It was an alligator, not a snapping turtle.

REALLLY

I would never have guessed:S

We called em snappers in our family...

If you called alligators "snappers", then what did you call snapping turtles?

Living at the end of an inlet of a big lake in Alabama, I see my share of wildlife. Years ago I saw this huge snapping turtle at the edge of the road right at the end of my property. Damn shell had to be at least 3 feet across! :o And it was heavy too. I made the mistake of trying to pick it up on the sides halfway between the head and the tail and the motherfucker about bit my fingers off. I didn't know their necks telescoped that far! So I came around to face it, and its head was bigger than my fist. I stuck the sole of my shoe right up to its face and it head-butted my foot. God damn, that felt almost like a sledgehammer! :S

I didn't want it crossing the road and taking a chance of getting run over, but I wasn't strong enough to pick it up without getting bit, so I went back to my garage for a big plastic bin and a flat-blade shovel. I shoveled the big sumbitch into the bin, and carried it over to the other side of the road where the swampy area was, and within minutes it crawled down there and disappeared.

Lots of snappers around here but mostly smaller, like a foot across. Those can hurt if you're not careful, but they're easy to pick up by the tail and carry around. They don't run though, they see you coming, they turn around and face you, ready to rumble. ;) Oh and don't get your face within 3 feet of them. You'd be surprised how far they can stretch their necks trying to bite your fucking nose off. :S:D
