BillyVance 34 #4 October 26, 2015 It's a multifaceted problem. Go look at pictures of people from the 40's, 50's, 60's, hell even 70's. How many obese people do you see? Packaged foods were scarce in those days. You pretty much had to actually cook raw foods. So you didn't consume a lot of processed fats then. People were actually active. Kids went out and played. Then.... technology arrived. New food products came out. Frozen dinners. Prepackaged dry foods. High sodium content. High fat content as well. Microwave ovens. Big TVs. Video games like Atari, Sega and on up to Xbox, etc... smart phones.... Kids don't go out to play much anymore. They'd rather play games on their tech devices. They end up going the easy route and pop in a frozen dinner or pizza rather than cook a healthy meal. Its a fucking catastrophe and its one that I'm NOT going to allow in MY family. My girls are healthy and active. They play a bit on the iPad then I put it away and make them do something else. My wife and I cook dinner. Meat, potatoes or rice, and a vegetable. Sometimes spaghetti from scratch. Rarely do I ever get a frozen dinner. Frozen pizza maybe once a month. Sugary desserts? Almost non-existent in my house except for some cookies for the girls. They need a little sugar, but not too much. But if the current predicament of obesity continues, by the time my girls hit middle or old age, most Americans are going to end up looking like the people on the spaceship in Wall-E. ryoder 1,590 #5 October 26, 2015 Actually, Billy just touched on the topic of an excellent recent book: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/18/books/salt-sugar-fat-by-michael-moss.html It covers the history of the processed food industry, and the science they use to determine the optimum levels of salt/sugar/fat that will maximize the amount people will eat."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. In my household; we're on the Paleo diet. 4ozs of grass fed or fish protein a day... all the fruit & vegetables you want. Nothing in a package. Period. People say it costs more to eat healthy. That hasn't been my experience. Sure, we now shop once a week. but because we don't buy anything in packages - its cheaper and faster to stick to the "Outer Ring" of the supermarket. I can be done shopping and out the door in 15 minutes. My 7 year-old's favorite dessert, treat, sweet, snack? Mandarin Oranges.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
Amazon 7 #8 October 26, 2015 I lost 80 pounds by eliminating the sugars.... essentially a paleo diet but no SUGAR... no fruit.... I gained weight just adding in fresh fruit... No root crops that grow in the ground other than red onions or mushrooms.... taters... or any other root crops.... are a no no... No high fructose corn syrup... in ANYTHING... No bread..... no rice.... Plenty of green veggies and salads with a little olive oil.... and apple vinegar mixed.. with a few spices... They do allow me a bit more ounces of meat a day.. 6 to 8 ounces.. all fresh... fish or grass fed critters from the local massive quantities of dead animal parts store. I have been bad recently on my trip thru deep fried everything land.. but I did have about every species of seafood imaginable in my 2 week vacation including a dish called Swamp thing at a restaurant on the Suwannee River in Fanning Springs.... I went to Florida and bit a gator.Swamp thing consisted of Frog legs... soft shelled crab.... catfish fillets... gator bits and GRITS....

Let's not forget government subsidies artificially lowering the prices of unhealthy foods/ingredients. You really think high fructose corn syrup would be used in so much stuff if corn wasn't so heavily subsidized?Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
