Budget cuts killed the last 3. And the fact that once we got there, there really wasn't much that was "sexy" (unless you were a geologist or an engineer). I love this sort of stuff too. The level of risk was very high, and almost every mission experienced one or two hair-raising moments having the potential to turn into a catastrophe. So after 5 successful missions and 1 successful failure, I think that many decision makers were reluctant to push their luck any further. That being said, the ingeniosity displayed by the space and ground crews to overcome the myriad of small and big problems is impressive.
