BillyVance 34 #260 March 18, 2014 The latest news report this morning was saying that the turns the jet made to the west and beyond were preprogrammed into the cockpit computer. lawrocket 3 #269 March 18, 2014 ryoderAnd another theory, quite different from the others: http://www.wired.com/autopia/2014/03/mh370-electrical-fire/ I find this somewhat compelling. The only problem I have is that a fire that is bad enough to incapacitate everybody on board would also be bad enough fire to bring the bird down pretty quickly. He pointed out Swiss Air Flight 111. It took 15 minutes from the "Pan Pan" call until the plane hit the water. I'm having a hard time picturing a plane with a fire that incapacitated the crew (and maybe everyone else) but wasn't enough to put the plane down quickly. My wife is hotter than your wife. jacketsdb23 49 #271 March 18, 2014 Hey pilots out there familiar with the 777...can something like a fire fit all of the facts we have to date? http://www.airtrafficmanagement.net/2014/03/exclusive-mh370-crew-succumbed-to-fire-catastrophe/ Systematic shut down of communication systems, erratic flying (initially). We've been told 45,000' was based on radar and might not be completely accurate. Anyway...i read this and it made a whole bunch of sense to a non-pilot like me. Whats more likely, a fire with visibility issues and lack of communications or shadowing another 777? Anyway, I hope the families of those on board get some answers. I think the Malaysian government has botched this whole investigation. Another article: http://www.wired.com/autopia/2014/03/mh370-electrical-fire/ And i just noticed it was already mentioned above. Doh! Anyway makes sense to me.Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
yoink 321 #272 March 18, 2014 jacketsdb23 I think the Malaysian government has botched this whole investigation. Why? What would you have done differently without the hindsight you have so far? Assuming they're not somehow hiding anything then they're trying to figure stuff out as much as anyone. I'm curious what you think they should have done with people clamoring for answers that they don't have? Personally, I think they should have been able to say to the 24/7 media 'we don't know yet. We're investigating and will inform you when we have some facts', and then shut up... - of course they'd not only be hung out to dry if they did that, but the media would just go ahead and make shit up anyway. I'm told anything even near THAT puts you on the ragged edge of a stall...and hand flying it would be ugly up there. "Service Ceiling" is the term the 43k would usually refer to. That higher the altitude is, the closer the aircraft gets to what is known as Cofffin Corner. It is not just that the altitude is so high that it will want to stall or one could simply increase airspeed. It is that the window between minimum airspeed and critical mach narrow until they are very close or intersect which IS Coffin Corner. Flying above the "service ceiling" gets closer to that point That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
