For people with TLDNR syndrome and are not familiar with the situation; the 'search' for the plane is not called off. The search for survivors is called off. They are still looking for the plane and are continuing all related investigations. The change from 'Incident' to 'Accident' is ambiguous (like anything official) to anyone not directly involved with MH370 or aviation crash investigation.

according to some of the articles about this find there has only been one 777 that has been lost at sea making the connection with MH370 (assuming that all other B777 parts matching this one are accounted for) all but definite.

Interesting.

I read several articles from different news reports, and all but one reiterate (correctly) that the investigators never said 'we will know if this piece came from MH370 or not through a thorough study of the part'. Of course they might eventually be fairly certain, though it will take time and creative methodology to determine.

This illustrates (again) the general differences between armchair researchers and an experienced unbiased investigation.
