The Preppy Rapist is a tandem instructor

Recommended Posts

I had to admit I was surprised that I didn't remember this dude being in the news for his crimes or being brought back from Europe when they finally nabbed him after several years on the run...

Anybody know this guy?

Where I work, everyone has to go through a background check.

And I would like to think that the DZO where I jump would not knowingly hire a registered sex offender as a skydiving instructor. The story may not be newsworthy but it is worthy of discussion here.

When someone has paid for their mistakes in life I tend to try to give them a chance.
I have no clue what the truth is in this case and I'm relatively sure nobody does nor can as these types of cases are typically sealed. (they are in Florida anyway)
I just can't support making someone pay for a mistake their whole life.
Unless the behavior doesn't change anyway.
I try to mind my own business I guess.

The CPI Page has a similar news article posted about this guy and their dealing with him. They have other more important airport issues.

I remember him from the FBI's most wanted show with John Walsh. And there was another show he was on, I think INTERPOL was involved trying to find him in Europe.
The arrogance of his parents protecting him was often mentioned.

USPA has the right to pull his ratings---just saying.
I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

From the article....
"Since parting ways with the club, Kelly has been pursuing his own business. He filed paperwork this spring establishing Freefall Aviation LLC and Para-Lease LLC, listing his parents' home in Darien as the base of operations. FAA records show Kelly also recently bought a Cessna 182 airplane.

Officials at Connecticut Parachutists Inc. say he also is trying to buy Ellington Airport, which would give him control over the skydiving club's lease. Larry Durocher, part of the airport's current ownership group, said the airport is for sale with an asking price of $2.9 million and he has been speaking to several potential buyers."

This smells like a business takeover and smear campaign to manipulate the sale of the airport. With $2.9 Mil involved, I'd be very skeptical to judge anyone right now. [:/]

How about this... the DZO interviewed Kelly, who explained his past to them, and they hired him due to his honesty.

THEN, Kelly hires a convicted child molester, but doesn't tell anybody about his background. This may have been a factor in Kelly being asked to resign, in addition to what the article detailed.

Where are you getting all of this from, are these hypothetical?

It is a club, there is no DZO. He started AFF there, showed up with an ankle monitor at the time. Fast forward multiple jumps and multiple years, he has an employment relationship with the club that sours.

Nope.

Either way your time line and your description of the situation is a bit off since it wasn't like there was a DZO and a upfront disclosure during a face to face.

He grew up as a jumper inside the club. There certainly was awareness of who he was, and his past conviction, but it isn't like there was a job interview in the normal sense. Club member had to make their own decisions about his past and how they felt about it as they went.

I stand corrected on the club status vs DZO aspect, but I'm saying Alex Kelly hired a convicted pedophile on his staff and didn't tell the club members about the guy's background. When the members found out, they wanted Alex to resign. That's what I was told.

Pedophile?

- "Indecent assault and battery on child under 14 years of age".
- "Rape and abuse of child".

And BTW the conviction dates are just a month after his 18th birthday.

Just to be clear, we're talking about the convicted pedophile that Alex Kelly hired on his staff at CPI, right?

I gotta kind of go with this. I see that he never takes women, just men. Smart move there. I'd have a hard time trusting him too much, though. :|

When I owned rental property and had to screen prospective tenants, I was shocked to see who had felony convictions. :o
