Deuce Matters

Recommended Posts

It's unbelievable what you miss when you can't be on here all the time. I had no idea about this, until tonight, when seeing a blue skys comment on a picture he was in on MySpace. I'm incredibly saddened by this, and I hope you, Duece, are at peace.

I may have never met you in person, but your chats with me about many, many things still ring in my head, and no doubt have kept me alive this long.

I miss you, buddy. Fly Free... :(

It's your life, live it!

I was thinking about you today, Deuce. You matter.

In a box in my garage, I came across the DZ.com Holiday Boogie DVD from Dec. 2003-Jan. 2004, JP. I was a newbie, so there's almost no footage of me, but I just now sat down and watched the whole thing because you put it together.

At the very end after the credits and Betsy's graceful freestyle, there is a close-up, slow motion image of you flying RW, JP. The wind was hitting your jumpsuit and you had a camera helmet on your head and an enormous, beautiful smile on your face. It sent chills throughout my body and made me happy and sad all at once.

You have ALWAYS mattered, JP. I love you, my sky big brother.

Shannon mattered. So many more of us do. I even do a little. You matter. Pull on time.

But please, don't pull the trigger until after you've talked it over with someone.

Some days I really, really miss you, JP. Keep flying around up there looking over us all, and know that you are still very much loved.

Deuce sent me a nice big bottle of Grey Goose when I was in Afghanistan. Every time I see a grey goose commercial now, I think of Deuce.

You know, right before JP died he told me that this job will blacken your soul and burn you up if you let it. Even if you don't let it, you have to work to keep your life intact. That was when I was a brand new rookie. Having been around around the block a couple of times now, I believe him and I can see where his demons started and the pit they came out of.

I miss that guy.

I've told this story before but it never gets old and always brings a smile to my face. The last time I saw Deuce was in Walnut Creek when the NorCal community was gathering to celebrate Tommy & Cliff right after they'd both gone in at the Eloy boogie. I was still living in Seattle but was down in NorCal to help Monkey who'd just had ankle surgery that day.

At some point I had to go back out to the car to feed the parking meter, and was walking back to the bar when a big truck pulled up behind me and a loud voice in a weird fake foreign accent said "I would like to have sex with you. How much for the sex?" I had a brief "WTF" moment before I realized who it was, JP just sitting in the truck with a big shit-eating grin on his face. :D:D

Miss ya, fucker.[:/]

When I quit jumping Deuce posted this. And every time I think of I smile and remember what a great guy he was.

Well, crap.

I'll never forget one of the first things you ever said to me: "You're Deuce? I thought you were much younger"

I'll miss you, Mike. Visiting Perris just won't be the same without you.
