davedlg 0 #1 October 5, 2004 First off, I am very well aware that at 20 jumps, I have nowhere near the amount of experience that it takes to jump a video camera. However I want to buy a digital camcorder with firewire right now for uses other than jumping. Knowing that I may want to someday jump a camera. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what make and model of camera is reccomended?
freeflajankie 0 #2 October 5, 2004 I have the Sony DCR PC 109. It's a small camera and it's really good. I got it at a great price aswell. It has a docking station that makes it reall easy to firewire to the Computer. And the battery is really flat and small not like a lot of the cameras out there. So that's my vote! http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=311433&is=REGSkydivers are a bunch of insensitive jerks... And that's why I don't skydive anymore! davedlg 0 #4 October 5, 2004 Ok, so I guess the general question I have is: can most any digitial video camera be made to fit a camera helmet, or are there only a select few that can?
freeflajankie 0 #5 October 5, 2004 You can get pretty much what ever type of camera to fit your helmet. If you are doing it yourself. If you buy premade boxes, then you pretty much have to go with their standard. AnkieSkydivers are a bunch of insensitive jerks... And that's why I don't skydive anymore! Jib 0 #6 October 5, 2004 If you want to use a L-plate or top mount, they can. Boxes are camera specific and driven by demand. nacmacfeegle 0 #7 October 6, 2004 Befriend a camera flier. I really can't stress how useful this is. Visit the camera forum, there are some really helpful and knowledgable people inhabiting that part of the forum. If you explain you are aware of your jump number limitations, and are just thinking about stuff for the future, we will probably be nice to you. Your situation has been discussed there before, so can probably search on topics of interest to your situation. Listen to advice. Decide whether you are going to take this up seriously, or just as a flight recorder. Decide whether you want to top mount it, or side mount it. Decide if things like a Cameye are important to you. Get a Sony, they are nearly all suitable for what you have inmind. Build up your editing skills, while the jump numbers catch up.
