JethroBodine 0 #1 December 31, 2014 Football fans! Here's an interesting story that's making the rounds in the sports world: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2014/12/10/should-an-oklahoma-judge-order-a-high-school-football-game-replayed/ So what should the judge do? 1) Toss out the lawsuit. Sometimes referees make bad calls. That's life. Suck it up and go on. 2) Order the last one minute of the game to be re-played to determine the outcome without the bad referee call."They got swimming pools and movie stars!" JohnMitchell 16 #2 December 31, 2014 As a Seahawk fan, I've seen some a bad call cost us a Superbowl win. That's life. And I would like to see the referee have to hold a press conference and apologize for his incompetence. Racism? Was the coach black and the ref white? Did it make a difference? I hope not. councilman24 37 #7 December 31, 2014 This isn't a blown call, this is not knowing the rules. If a ref doesn't see a holding foul, or misses a step out if bounds on a run back or misses a tag at second base that's the way it goes and humans make errors. In this case no one is disputing a call. It's the application of the rule after the call. This is actually fixable by playing the final minute of the game with the proper score and possession. Taking a blown call to court, stupid. Asking for a blown rule to be fixed seems fare. Accepting a win this way, bad sportsmanship. Blown call, bad luck. Blown rule, bad training. GD64 1 #8 December 31, 2014 This is just another example of the "everyone deserves a trophy crowd", whose actions and teaching are sending the wrong message to the youth of America. This pathetic message is being sent via taxpayer money as well (the school didn't pay lawyers out of their own pockets). Bad calls....fact of life (shit happens). Damn, grow thicker skin. There are a lot more important things in life then "bread and circuses". I know there are a lot of good kids out there, however, there are also a lot that are coddled and constantly told how special they are. They will have a much harder time adjusting to adulthood, IMO. The boss is mainly interested in the bottom line and not into coddling, because those 12-14 hour work days leave no time for that. The coddled ones will probably never be entrepreneurs because they will run out of lawyer money if they are taking every perceived slight to court as they were "taught" in school. Life isn't fair.......so fucking what! Rant out!
BillyVance 34 #9 December 31, 2014 What the fuck is wrong with these midwest schools getting lawsuits and shit forcing games to be postponed? I don't remember anything like that happening in Alabama. Sure there's been some bad calls, bad blood, etc in the recent past, but it was handled swiftly by the state high school athletic association, which has absolute power. Fucking idiots... I do remember one recent case (not in court) of a powerhouse football team some said was one of the strongest in the southeast and likely would have won the state championship, but was found to have played an ineligible player due to a questionable move by the parents into that school's district, so the state forced the school to forfeit all games from that season and kept them out of the playoffs. There was an uproar, lots of gnashing teeth, wailing and shit, but they didn't take it to court, I don't think. BIGUN 1,312 #10 January 1, 2015 There is nothing more manic in Oklahoma than Friday night high school football. Dare one send their kid to school on Friday without a "team spirit" shirt. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
