Dimebag Darrell

Recommended Posts

One of the witnesses said that the gunman yelled something at Darrell about breaking up Pantera right before he shot him. The guy must have had some serious mental problems.

Very sad that some nutcase can just go and take someone else's life away so easily. [:/]

Pantera always sounded more like a cessna engine in need of a tune-up than music.

So you didn't like it. Fine, a lot of people did.

And the whole Rebel flag thing puts them in the WT category.

Nice stereotype. What other stereotypes are you using to catagorize people and different races.

TRUE, Columbus Ohio. Alrosa Villa: been there many times for local shows. Barely any security, rat trap, dump of a place, in the ghetto, but good music to be had. If you saw the place you would know imediately the risks you were taking just walkin in. It's not that bad but it is in no way shape or form a good part of town or place to wander alone.

Sucks that asshole took so many others with him. I just hope it was no one I knew. I have spent so much time at the Alrosa but I don't think i'll ever be back.

There was a shooting that killed 2 in the parking lot in 2000/2001 so they are no stranger to violence but they seemed to think it wouldn't happen again. Looks like they need metal detectors. No, you don't get searched on the way in to the place either. It's just bad news all around.

***And the whole Rebel flag thing puts them in the WT category.

The KKK trash used the American flag long before they picked up the flag of the Confederacy.
As a Southerner I take deep offense to those who depict my heritage as racist.

Drunkmonkey this thread is for rememberance of a great musician, not to trash the man

and apparently has delusions about being the Mark Chapman of the Metal world... [:/]:S

I was wondering if the date had any significance, or if it was just a coincidence.

I was just reading a news article that mentioned something about lots of dimebag stuff on ebay, so I went and had a look... There are about 350 new listings (from today) of dimebag merchandise, and some people are already selling "dimebag memorial" stuff. Wow, some people have no dignity. He's not even buried yet and these people are rushing out to make a quick buck off of his murder. :|

I have something to add to all this.....

It is rumored that the crazed gunman screamed at Dimebag accusing him of breaking up Pantera just moments before killing him.

That is so unfair! If anyone broke up Pantera, it was Phil Anselmo. Phil basically gave Pantera the cold shoulder and would not return phone calls or book studio time with the band!

Dimebag and Vinnie just wanted to cut another Pantera record but since they had such a dick for a lead singer, they chose to pursue music without him.

DamagePlan was created to bring the music to the true fans. It wasn't about egos. They gave up the big arenas and amphitheaters to play shitty nightclubs for you guys, even though they were way too good to play small nightclubs. They didn't need the money. They just wanted to connect with their fans since Pantera was defunct.

Dimebag sacrificed all of this what does he get for his commitment to his fans and his love for music?

What a horrible waste. We truly do live in a world of shit. There is no way Dimebag deserved this!

Rest in peace brother. You are in a better place now.

Sad...and senseless.

If you read all the available info you realize that the killer had major mental/personality issues. As one person that knew him said before the tragedy, "he's like those Columbine kids".

Musically, I considered Darrell to be a freak of nature. I'm not into the typical vocal styles of modern metal but I do own 3 Pantera CDs because I like Darrell's playing so much. Very intense, very unique and highly skilled.

As a musician myself, I feel for Vinnie Paul not only for the obvious reasons, but for the fact that he will never be able to play with his brother again.

Rest in Peace Dimebag and all the others who have fallen.

The really sad part is that his brother saw the entire thing.

Sorry, folks, for your loss. I don't know any Pantera music (or Damageplan, for that matter) but I respect a good guitarist and wish I was one.

As far as the sadness of his brother witnessing his murder, well, I think that maybe at least seeing the shitbag who killed him dead of a 12 ga. shotgun wound gave him more satisfaction than he'd get watching the piece of shit look a jury in the eye and say, "I'm not guilty of this." :| That'd be worse.

You would probably recognize a lot of their music if you heard it again. Pantera had a very distinct sound with a guitar player that actually knew how to write guitar solos as well as keep a crunchy rhythm section.

Although his band was not selling CD's like Pantera used to, he was still at a peak musically. He could play a solo more precise than ever.

He surpased lesser guitar legends like Eddie Van Halen and Kirk Hammet of Metallica who are now basically considered a joke among musical circles.

He never sold out and he never compromised his playing style to fit current trends in music.

He was born a shredder and he died a shredder!
STRONGER THAN ALL!

edited to add: MTV did a great piece on him at http://www.mtv.com/news/topics/d/dimebag_darrell/
"Dimebag Darrell 1966-2004"

If you don't know who he is, you should check it out.
