making the roll on a psycho pack

Recommended Posts

Had a case of beer moment last night as I assembled and packed my new Safire 2 for the first time. I intially started out with a psycho-pack, but when it came time to roll up the canopy, I just could not get the roll started. Every time I tried, it felt like I was trying to fold a flat, rigid plate. I made multipe tries but eventually gave up after the fabric had slid around enough to make me loose confidnece in the pack job. Is there any tips experienced psycho packers can give me for getting the roll started?

Also, is psycho packing that big of a deal for a Safire 2? I was able to pro pack the thing pretty easily for being 269 sf of new zp, so if it's not crucial, I could just keep pro packing .

Instead of rolling do a "fold"
Hold your left hand over it to hold it in place and then fold/roll with your right hand.
It could help to put a weight at the bottom aswell.
Otherwise if you just roll you might have a tendency to just pull the topskin and totally expose your bottom.
It takes some practice. But once you got it down, I don't think you will change.
I will never go back tp propacking after learing to psycho pack.

Hope this helps. It's easier to show then describe.

Yes, what she said. It's not rolling, but folding the cocooned canopy in bag-sized "chunks". It usually takes 3 folds. I hold my entire forearm across the canopy as I make my first fold. OK, kids, quiz time...can anyone tell me who was the very first person to jump from a plane using the psycho pack?

I put one knee at the bottom to keep the lines from moving and one knee in the middle and then roll it up with both hands. I'm not an expert packer, but I haven't had a malfuction on my Sabre 2 doing it that way either.

That's exactly how I do it with my Stiletto, Andrea.

Also, at the end of the canopy, I pull the bottom fabric up a bit to make a small pocket, stuff the fluff at the end into it, then roll it up. It's much easier for me to control it that way.:)

I roll my Safire just like you said Andrea. Just roll the thing up. Keep the lines from getting all screwy and roll away!!!!

like Andrea said! What I do is make the cigar as any propackers do and then I jus flip the cigar over and

put one knee on the slider to keep the lines from getting mess up and the other knee somewhere in the middle.... that give you both hands to get the roll started and pull the bridal loop to the side...

then roll away baby!!!

this gives you good control over the width of the roll
so that the pack job jumps into the d-bag:D:D

lot of people are pretty skeptical about the psychopacks here in switzerland... but I love the look I get from people that have never seen one done before!

It like:" Dude, what the F.... are you doing"

I've been psycho-packing my Pilot 168 for about 20 jumps now. When I first started I ended up with some fat rolls that were somewhat difficult to get in the bag. I even had a few where it was slipping and sliding all over the place and I ended up just starting from scratch. After about the 6th psycho pack, i got it down. Now my roll is actually so small and tight I have no problem getting it in the bag. In fact, the roll is so small and tight I really should switch to the smaller rubber bands!
