grue 1 #1 January 23, 2014 For me a standout would be Oblivion. Tom Cruise is a nutball but I don't hold it against him, he makes fun films. I wasn't expecting much out of this, but found it to be beautifully shot, well edited, and had one of the best scores I've heard in my life. It wasn't without flaws (I don't want to get into spoilers, but there was an entire action scene that I could have done without), but it was just really damned enjoyable!cavete terrae. LuckyMcSwervy 0 #8 January 24, 2014 I forgot The Heat. Someone posted this in the "loathed" thread and it reminded me I liked it. I think the venue has a lot to do with it too. I spent some time in Key West this summer and saw quite a few movies at the Tropic Cinema. I bought a membership. Love that place!! http://www.tropiccinema.com/main.html Always be kinder than you feel.

JohnMitchell 16 #14 January 24, 2014 normiss Captain Phillips. The fire department was an amazing surprise. Loved that show. Tom Hanks rarely shanks one. Just finished watching "Lone Survivor". Pretty powerful movie. Where do we find men like our soldiers? I'm in awe.
GAjumper84 0 #15 January 24, 2014 My biggest surprise recently was Elysium. I figured it wasn't going to have a decent storyline based on the overall plot. Some of it was very predictable, but the way it was put together, without overuse of special effects, and with some good twists and turns along the way. Definately one worth picking up at Redbox. TriGirl 319 #18 January 24, 2014 RED 2. I loved the first one, but even with the comics (DC and Marvel alike), subsequent films are usually underwhelming. But this one made me laugh harder than the first. (And I agree with you, Grue. Tom Cruise is a nutball, but he makes good films. Same with several other entertainers.)
