Pro-Track/Dytter issue

Recommended Posts

ok... this is totally weird.

I go jumping at chick's rock.

my pro-track alarms are set at 5K, 4K, and 2.5K.

at 5K, I hear nothing, but, being altitude aware and not beep-reliant, break off anyway and pull at the proper altitude. Protrack gave me the 5K beep at 4K, had me opening at 4200. Neptune on same dive had me open at 2900, which sounds right, given my visual altitude and time under canopy.

So, the next day, figuring the pro-track was having issues, I borrow Clownburner's pro-dytter. The dytter went off 1000 feet low, just like the pro-track! I had the neptune checked by Alti-Bob, and he said it's working fine.

So, if the dytter is doing the same thing as the pro-track, and the neptune has been checked, how in the heck is there all of a sudden a 1K difference in my neptune and my protrack/dytter?

the only thing that's different is that I got my helmet painted.

Must be a female protrack. I've heard that if you get a bunch of female protracks together their beeps will eventually start to happen at the same time.

You have to make sure it isn't still on and set for Perris when you get over to Elsinore. Turn them off and back on before you jump there.

SOunds like that is the problem especially if both your Neptune and Protrack are doing the same thing. You have to make sure it is set to the ground level of wear you are jumping.

Does the helmet seal better now that it's been painted? Perhaps tightening the face plate down more has sealed the helmet too much? Perhaps it's 'too' airtight and this is causing pressure changes to happen more slowly inside the helmet than before. Or perhaps the positioning of the padding is different and that's causing the sensor on the pro(track|dytter) to register differently.

Are you putting it in the same orientation (facing in and up, for example) as before, or did that change?

It's another variable that's changed. You might want to adjust the tension on the visor to a more 'normal' setting and see if it works.

Alternatively, just set your protrack 1000 feet higher and don't count on it for logging, use the Neptune. ;)

Wow! That's the first time i've heard that one. I love protrack for logging, it is MUCH easier to get the info you need from the protrack because it all fits on one screen, and there is no need to select each jump then return and move forward/backward select another. I used to bitch about the Neptune logging (messed up logs, difficulty with the hard to press buttons, etc), then I just decided I didn't care what it said, I was only going to log what was on the Protrack... now my life is so much easier:D

Nightingale, have you jumped again as the 1st jump of the day there? I would consider the suggestion about turning it off and on between dzs of different elevations. The neptune is cool because it does that automatically, or you simply selecte "i'm no dz". I love the neptune for an alti, but if you're not flying birdman the protrack rocks for logging, imo.

Angela.

Chris dear....

Turn it off so that it resets. I keep mine set to power save and it turns off automatically that way it resets when you go to different DZ.. on different days.. BUT.. if during the same day learn to turn it off.

I have seen the same disparity when I went to LP last year with my new protrack. It was set to auto and stayed on. and was off by 3500 ft.. since I jump at essentially sea level.
