Horrible Day...

Recommended Posts

Whats the difference between taking pictures/video with cellphone/camera/vid.cam. and filming it with a gopro+quad?

I honestly don't see any difference so I'm curious why you people are so offended over the quad.

Sorry about your day. :(

Sending you a totally platonic, ass out, just touch at the shoulders, avoid the breasts, keep it brief, slight pat on the back, don't smell the hair, don't kiss the cheek, but reassuring hug.

Just a little light-heartedness. The trauma is brief. The effects are long. In the end, it can all be replaced. The people and the memories go on. I hope you awake feeling better.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Your fire extinguishers? ... Not all WATER based are they? Sounds obvious in the 'cold' light of day..but a lot of fires in the home may be Electrical... Ensure that you've the right ones available.

I can't say I'm hugely offended, but I think I can answer the question.

It's an issue of what is appropriate. People are losing their possessions. Their pictures, the kids' school projects, the quilt made by their deceased grandmother, things of more than financial value. They were scared for the lives of those they love only moments ago.

That someone is interested in making it into entertainment via a phone camera is...inappropriate. That they got out more complex equipment and are attempting to launch even more invasive means of documenting someone else's emotional loss is insulting.

The chances that the guy was documenting it so the family would have something to remember it by are pretty low. He was fulfilling a personal desire with their loss. It's opportunistic, self-serving, and not in keeping with the level of human empathy that many of us would like to strive for. Call it...insensitive.

I have 4 fire extinguishers (all 2kg dry powder) and a mains powered smoke alarm with its own internal battery back-up(installed by the landlord). We live on the ground floor as my wife is disabled and the fire alarm is also linked to a 24hr warden service (has caused problems when I've burned the bacon).

You know, if I wouldn't lose my security clearances over something small, who knows what I may have done/said. He had his kid, about 10 years old with him, to boot. The girl who lost her home yelled at him that he was setting a great example for all the kids (they were gathering about him down the street as he fly it over her house).

You only get in trouble if you get caught.

That being said, most of the people I've seen get in any trouble and have their clearances bounce were because of financial issues or alcohol incidents.

Of course, the new signal officer in charge of my detachment getting a DUI didn't help the problem any, though it was funny that he couldn't follow us into some of the rooms. :D:D

***If I was running the ladder truck, that quadcopter would have been accidentally hit with 500 gpms.

And having a few fire extinguishers, one in the kitchen, one in the garage at least, can stop things if caught quickly.

I didn't know that's what they're called but I Googled the word 'quadcopter' and this popped right up. Looks exactly like what he had.

I know back in the day we had the el-cheapo radio shack remote controlled cars and me being the 'strange' one of the family, I had a CB radio. I learned what frequency on the CB I could use to control the cars (by using different tones I could convince the cars to go forward or turn).

Now, I'm sure the quad is probably using some other frequency and jamming signals isn't something the FCC or fire rescue guys would appreciate...

I was just hoping you would say one of the fire fighters 'accidentally' hit the quad with the hose and it fell into the house.

They're insured for the structure but not contents.

My regrets to them for their loss - but this points out a mistake people sometimes make when buying homeowner's insurance - sometimes due to not realizing what they're (not) buying, or sometimes due to a desire to economize on premiums: check with your agent on whether your insurance covers contents, too - sometimes it requires you to "schedule" certain specific items of value, such as jewelry, electronics, a skydiving rig, etc. And, that may or may not require some extra money per month. If you don't buy the right insurance, you could find yourself only partly covered for your loss.

I hope your neighbors recover from their ordeal with as little further trauma as possible.

Not when the wife likes it extra crispy (shatters when you bite it).

Crispy? You married her, why?

This morning I was thinking I may have overreacted on this one but I'm still not convinced I did. I think intentionally inserting yourself into something like this via getting in the way or distracting rescue personnel is horrible. A grown man continuing to do so when you've been told by a victim that you're upsetting crying little kids by flying over their house with a toy is pretty disgusting. Knowing this is this guy's "hobby" is saddening.

No, some kind of foam. As a matter of fact, I better check to see when they expire because I honestly do not know.

Thank you for the reminder! B|

I actually offered up my pics to the appropriate people if they need to see anything that happened before the fire department got there.

I was thinking it's a good damn thing I was home and not sitting in an office 1.5 hours away not knowing what was going on because my police department put pictures up right away on Facebook, as well as some local news pages I follow. I would've died seeing that first on Facebook because I was honestly shocked when I saw it so soon and I was standing across the street from it happening live.

Since I've access to the delete button in the database where these offenses are generated/maintened/etc., my ass would be DONE. D-U-N DONE.

I've seen it happen, I've had to revoke privileges on other people so I know it's no joke, no matter how small an infraction.

Thank you and thanks for the PSA. Luckily, I'm covered to the hilt, thanks to my Dad's guidance. The neighbors and I were talking about this last night. My homeowner's company sends out reminders every few months to check your coverage amounts due to new purchases/home additions/etc.. I don't know if that's the norm but it's a good reminder.

You need to accept what happens in the public space is public.
Pics and video of public events are perfectly normal.

It's a matter of respectful time and place. Standing with a camera from a discreet distance, especially if you're not a news reporter, is the way to do it (or from a nearby window, as Karen did). But a fucking noisy drone right over the smouldering ashes, while the family is still there? Intrusive to the point that the drone operator deserves an ass-kicking.

Well, I found the MFers You Tube channel and he already has a snazzy little video up of the fire and the drone action. I saw he credited his wife with taking lots of pictures. And other neighbor gets some photo creds as well. I was talking to her earlier, didn't know they were a couple. She actually crossed the police tape and was taking pictures. You can see the family on the sidewalk by the remains of the house. Wow. Just wow.

ETA: He also has a shitload of vids of him flying this thing all around the neighborhood. What bothers me the most is that we're right by the airport and we get lots of low flying planes right over our houses and the farmland adjacent to our development. Not to mention the Lifeflight helicopter. >:(

This MFer just couldn't wait to get his footage online. It's now 5:36pm and it says the fire video was posted 23 hours ago. Un-effing-real.
