Reline question

Recommended Posts

Ok another post about my heatwave. i contacted aerodyne and they said it would be $240 to reline a heatwave 120 and take 4 to 5 weeks, because it has be discontinued, which make no sense to me. What i was wondering is, Is there somewhere or someone else i can send it to, like a master rigger or something. Thanks for the help.

In my experience a rigger is going to charge you more it's a lot of work to do a re-line. It's well worth the wait to send it off to the manufacture to do it.

I'm lucky, I talked one of my rigger friends into doing my re-line last year, and didn't have to do the long wait thing.

$240 is not really excessive. Most linesets cost $120 to $150 just for the lineset, and most riggers or manufacturers will charge about $100 to install one.

4 to 5 weeks is not that long considering the back log manufacturers and large lofts often encounter.

I say suck it up, or shop for a new canopy. Orphaned products often have their own baggage.

Maybe you could ask them to build you the lineset and ship it to you. That way you can have your rigger reline it during the week and not miss any jumping. I can't see why they wouldn't just sell you the set for local installation.

Jason,

Here is a breakdown of the price and time frame:
Lineset $175
Installation $50
Return shipping $15
Total $240

2-3 weeks to produce @ Aerodyne Systems
1 week shipping from AS to Aerodyne Research
7-10 days to install here
3-4 days to ship to you
Total 4-6 weeks

The wait is due to the fact that it is a discontinued PISA product and we give such a margin to include down time from hurricanes, national holidays (in both countries), etc...

We don't carry the specs for their canopies because they are not our canopies. It would make about as much sense as keeping the specs and building linesets for Nitrons, Spectres, or FXs made by other manufacturers.

I know Mike at Skydivegear/ Chuting Star has several linesets in stock, but you would have to check with him on size, availability, and time constraints. mike@skydivegear.com

As far as having a local rigger do it, they would have to order the lineset through us or Aerodyne Systems but you may save some time and money on installing it, I don't know.

And last, my personal feeling is always send it back to the manufacturer as they generally know more about the product, any updates or design changes, etc...

Sorry we cannot be of any more assistance in this matter but let us know if you are still sending it in.

$240 is reasonable, I paid $229 for a manufacturer reline a couple years ago. I have also found that most manufacturers will fix worn slider stops and minor trim issues as well--I'm a rigger and most riggers charge piece rate for things like that. It's a great time to broaden your experience and skills with a similar sized demo canopy from another mfr., that would fix two weeks of your four week problem right there, blue skies
