Stamps: Damaging fragile minds and putting children in danger.

Recommended Posts

Since when do we expect to wear a helmet when standing on our heads? Do they make helmets specifically for this purpose, with flat tops so the kid doesn't fall over? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of a headstand, which is creating your own balance (thereby activating core and other support muscles)?

Maybe the skateboarder is wearing kneepads under his jeans. They look large/baggy enough! And I guess if the swimming stamp portrayed instead some kids playing in the water, someone would complain that they weren't wearing water wings, or you couldn't see a lifeguard in the distance! >:(

Need to break out the thesaurus to find just the right words to describe this story. [:/] (ETA: although, Grue's first "reaction" is quite appropriate, and still has me giggling!)

Well, moving in just about any kind of way could cause an obese person to have a heart attack... So they should *all* be banned!! :D:D

I wonder which is less safe, riding a skateboard without knee pads or getting diabetes at 13 because you're a tubby little fucker. Maybe they should release a tubby little fucker series of postage.

:D:D:D:DF-in' stamps would be too big to fit the letter!:P

God, I just love the self-righteous safety nazis among parents. They just love to throw out the "safety" flag and blow their whistle every chance they get. If you try to oppose them, they accuse you of endangering all children. I'm guessing most of them got picked last for every game.:P

Our kids grew up with a trampoline, tree house, huge swing set and BB guns. We coached them as to what was appropriate and what was not. No problems and they are all healthy and active adults now. :)

I was born in 1970 and never wore safety gear on my bike or anything else I did. I've managed to survive into my mid 40s just fine and jump out of airplanes. Then, as now, shattering a femur is just nature's way of telling you not to do whatever it was you were doing!
I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?

Me, too (except for the born in 1970 part). But recently I managed to dump my bicycle, and hit my head. I'll admit I was glad I was wearing a helmet; it meant that I straightened the handlebars, put a strap around where I scraped my knee so it wouldn't gross out onlookers, and finished my ride and my errand.

Dunno if it would have knocked me out, but it was a good hard clunk. I think I'll keep wearing the helmet.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

No longer allowed at the Weber Middle School in Port Washington, New York: footballs, baseballs, soccer balls, lacrosse balls and any other hardballs that could injure a child. Also off limits: rough games of tag and cartwheels unless an adult supervisor is on hand.

New Groningen kindergarten teachers in Grand Rapids, Michigan caused some consternation amongst parents recently with a letter they sent home that banned the game of tag and other chase-oriented games.

The only thing more obnoxious than other people's children are their short-sighted parents... "Don't run or exercise, it's dangerous..." (as they text and eat breakfast while driving 90mph down the highway).

How else are kids supposed to develop the hand-eye coordination and spacial awareness that come from playing these types of sports?

And cartwheels??? How many kids that age are enrolled in gymnastics, or were during elementary school? It was much more dangerous for me later into adulthood to try to do event he simple back flips I used to do on the trampoline as a child. :$ Turns out kids are much more adept at that type of physical movement. Until we forbid them from doing it. :S

Everything in your attachment was true for me. And then some!

:D

Heck, I played with molten lead and sent Tonkas down the sidewalk with cherry bombs on board.

Mercury was fun too.

LOL!! Yes, it was!! I remember dropping a thermometer on the bathroom vanity tiles and tried picking all of the little balls with my bare fingers. I thought it was a fun challenge. :D

Maybe that's what's wrong with me now... :P:P:P
