benamoz 0 #1 November 12, 2004 So after 20 or so jumps if I was going to bust out and buy a decent chute...What should I start with? I am 6ft tall and weigh 175lbs...at this point I am more into flying than falling...but I am sure that will change....If you know of any web pages where I can view some of these rigs that would be great...I have seen the Lotus so far not many more... Thanks Ben

Since you haven't given us much to work with I'll just take a stab in the dark - An Icon container with a Smart 250 and a Silhouette 230, assuming you have jumped a main as small as that before and done OK on it. Also a cypres. To see a lot of different rigs and mains, try the Square 1 website, the Aerodyne International website, the PD website, the Rigging Innovations website, the Sunpath website etc.
IanHarrop 42 #3 November 12, 2004 Go find the most respected rigger in your area and talk to him about used gear. As a newbie you can spend alot of money on new equipment and you may be better off starting with used good used gear then transistion to more expensive stuff as you gain experience."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

Thanks Look for a use set of gear with a square ZP main of around 1:1 WL. Canuck 0 #5 November 12, 2004 Ben, We established in a previous thread that I don't know you. I am at Eden North every operating day from sun-up until sun-down, which makes me wonder why I don't know you. First you're asking about IAD vs. AFF, now, a few days later, you're talking about buying gear. Have you actually done a jump yet? How many? One step at a time grasshopper. If you haven't even done your freefall training yet, don't even think about buying gear. Like I said in the last thread, if you are really interested in taking up skydiving, and provided you have done a few jumps already, go to AZ for the Invasion, spend a couple weeks on a dropzone (instead of on dropzone.com), do some jumps, learn a little about skydiving, and then next Spring start thinking about buying gear. Lurk the posts all you want, but in my opinion it is totally useless to try and learn about skydiving without time spent skydiving. You will learn more in one day at a dropzone and night around the fire than you will in a year on the internet. Not trying to be rude, just sharing my thoughts. Hope to see you next Spring at Eden (I can't make AZ this year). Canuck
benamoz 0 #6 November 12, 2004 The other problem with these boards....and not that its anyone's fault...people talk an awful lot and have to assume a lot of info....can make for some general confusion....But thanks for the input....if you wish to chat for real...send me a private message and I'll give you my cell...
