Thought Of A Great Interview Question!

"How would you go about calculating the volume of a pony?"

So far it seems like most of my co-workers would fail the interview.

Pony keg is already a defined volume; 1/4 of a barrel or 7.75 gallons. 1/4 of a barrel...quarter horse...pony...get it?

However, "Eureka!" Your water displacement method is the absolute correct answer for a young horse. Although, a measuring tape is commonly used as for an approximation of weight (which, yes, is different than volume) for the purposes of general dosages of medicines and supplements. See, that's not so hard is it? I've gotten water displacement from a couple people, but not on my immediate team. My first though upon thinking of the question was "Can I put the pony in a blender?" I decided that if the interviewer receives this question his response should be "No, I want to use the pony later."

I suppose you could also potentially decompose the pony into curves and use the calculus method of estimating the volume of a curve, but that's boring.
I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?

According to the guys at Blendtec, it will blend.

Also, never assume there is only ONE way of doing something or giving a technically correct answer.

For instance, with the proper equipment a person could also laser scan the pony and derive the volume from that.

AND without you further defining the question...

I could take a db meter, put it next the pony and then slap it on its ass.

Wrong .. [pedant mode = on] the question asked you how to CALCULATE the volume of a Pony NOT find out through experimentation:P

That's sooooo easy.

The answer is boobies.

A more descriptive answer is Boobies and Blow.

If you REALLY want to get numerals past the decimal . . . Strippers and Blow.

This question should probably be in the context of what profession you are hiring for:

Mathematician: extrapolate curve data from a 3-D scan, and enter that into Mathematica.

Physicist: Weigh the pony, and using the average mass of equines per kilogram, easy division to get the volume. Initial conditions are that you know the average mass of equine and have a large scale.

Engineer: Given the average volume of a comparably sized cow, the volume of the pony will be the same +-10%

Marketing: Who cares about the volume? Does it come in the colors that the customer wants?

Janitor: Uh-uh! I ain't cleaning up all that shit.

Edit to add:

Chemist: You want the final answer in Moles per milliliter, right?
