VanillaSkyGirl 6 #1 November 15, 2004 If a canopy has about 700 jumps and has been recently relined (about 75 jumps ago), would it be possible that the canopy could still be in "great condition"? It has no patches/holes and is told to have on heading openings. How else does the canopy become affected after this much use besides being easier to pack and needing relining? I know that this may seem like a silly question because some people have this many jumps on their mains, but I have only owned slightly used canopies with less than 350 jumps on them. I have no idea if it would be a mistake to buy one that has about 700 jumps on it. I am looking to upsize, so I am looking at all options. Let's say this canopy is a Spectre 150...how much would you pay for it?
VanillaSkyGirl 6 #2 November 15, 2004 I just saw the sticky. I'll contact PD or a rep as I was going to originally do that with this question. If anyone wants to answer still, that would be wonderful. You may also PM me. Thank you.
mattjw916 2 #3 November 15, 2004 My '99 Safire has about 800 jumps on it with a reline some time ago and flies, flares, and opens great! I would consider it to be in "very good" condition personally. I paid $650 if I remember correctly, but PD canopies usually have a better resale value than Precision/Icarus. If there are only 75 jumps on the canopy after the reline and everything else looks good it is conceiveable that it could be considered "great" condition. Of course, if it is possible/feasible have it inspected by a rigger you trust and do a few demo jumps if you are still worried about it.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
GravityGirl 0 #4 November 15, 2004 In my store, I would put it at $700.00 or $800.00 witht he fresh reline. I love canopies in that jump # range. Easier to pack. If they have been properly maintained, and it sounds like it has, they fly great. You will have a good resale value on it if you fly it for a couple hundred jumps and treat it nicely. This canopy can last over 2,000 jumps. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
MarkM 0 #5 November 15, 2004 I have a 700 jump Triathlon 160 that flies wonderfully. The main killer on the value of it though is that it's 9 years old, even though I bought it in 2000 and kept it stored for about 4 years. I don't know how I'd price the Spectre 150, depends on when it was made. Usually you subtract about $100 per 100 jumps off what they'd cost brand new, or $100 per year of age(whatever is higher). To me a recent reline adds in a bit more value though, I paid a little more for my Hornest 150 because it had a brand new reline. Relines cost about 200 or so. Can you see the canopy beforehand? You're at a big CA DZ no? There's no reason why any seller shouldn't be comfortable sending the canopy to the rigger at a big DZ for you to check out. billvon 3,070 #6 November 15, 2004 It is possible that a Spectre 150 with 700 jumps is in good condition if it has been well cared for and jumped in a clean area (i.e. not Perris or Eloy.) It all depends on what sort of care was taken. A ZP canopy, if well cared for, can last 2000 jumps easily with regular line changes. I think we got 2500 jumps out of an old Sabre 1 150 before it blew a seam due to wear. Personally, I'd pay around $500 for a canopy with 700 jumps on it, but Perris prices are higher than the rest of the country.

This is not from Perris, and I was thinking of paying about that much for it, if possible. Thanks for the information, everyone.
johnny1488 1 #8 November 15, 2004 The price range of that canopy (I think) would be about 500-700. Even after you jump it you could still sell it at a decent price 'cause someone else (or you) could reline it and it will fly liek new again. I dont think I've seen an airworthy (current or recent model) canopy sell for less than 350 bucks, so it sounds like a good deal. (Assuming it checks out good with a rigger.) diablopilot 2 #9 November 15, 2004 It depends on how it's been treated durring those 700 jumps. I have a canopy with over 1000 and it's doing great. One that's been dragged around, gotten wet, packed wet, laid out in the sun too much, etc.....you'll take your chances. Have a rigger look at it first.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

skydiverton 0 #11 November 15, 2004 Got a stiletto 107 with about 800jumps at least. Bought a reline and the canopy opens, flies and flares like new and best of all. It does NOT pack like new ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
