ChrisD 0 #28 April 22, 2013 I have this neighbor from hell, "The Lawn nazi." I go green by not mowing at all. The lawn nazi makes comments from across the yard, I go to the other neighbor, on the other side who has this thing??? withwheels and looks much akin to someting from the movie "Saw" ( any version of Saw will do.) with a fricken handle on it. I borrow this thing. Start pushing it around in my little "nature preserve," makes two lines in the ground, disturbes some mating rabbits and all in all gets full of the finest hemp lookalike in less than ten seconds flat,... The lawn nazi decides to chime in, "we call it helping a fellow jumper out here on dz.com, I'm not sure I'm getting any help when the advice is I'm using the "wrong tool for the job!" ( Ya I know its the wrong tool, my gas mower is hid in the back of the garage, this is a set up remember.) So I ask for some pointers anyways, he is much more experienced than me and I'm obviously a newbie at this mowing thing anyways, "so can you please show me how to use this."? It is 85 degrees on a cloudless day, dry as shit in the desert and ragweed or something I can't identify is everywhere. Probably my son's weed stash that he thinks I don't know about, as a parent ( Scarey hu?) anyways as a parent you take notice when your children start to take an interest in fertalizing the side yard... (He's off at college now.) Again, nazi lawn boy starts pushing, and pushing, and again pushing , this guy is determined to make the lawn look like a tic tac toe board, "blades need sharpinin!" Is the final, gasping comment, as heir himmler Scotts boy sulks off into the sunset. I just stand there witha little smirk, never did use the thing again, the lending neigbor never asked for it back. That was four years ago.CBut what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

Well, the handle on the electric mowers I've seen is fully insulated from the motor, wiring and blades. There's no way to get a shock from running over the cord. My dad used electrics for a long time. Much easier to plug it in and flip a switch than messing around trying to start a gas engine. I currently use an older Ryobi cordless electric. 24v (2 lawn tractor batteries in series). It works great, is fairly quiet, reliable as it gets. Just kinda heavy. My dad got it about 20 years ago, and as he got older, he couldn't handle the weight. So he got a corded Black&Decker and gave me the Ryobi. I've had to put a set of batteries in it, and had a fuse blow once, but that's been the only trouble. There's a lot better newer stuff out there, but I don't see a need to replace it."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." oldwomanc6 52 #30 April 23, 2013 Quote Anyone ever use one of those unpowered reel/blade push mowers? +/-?? My mower can't handle my lawn anymore and have to buy a new one. Was considering greening it up a bit and getting away from gas powered mowers. Actually, it may not need to be in there if the local municipal ordinances already prohibit it. IIRC, my city recently made a change to allow small numbers of small "livestock", due to an issue with a neighborhood they annexed which had long allowed pastures on the properties. So it might actually be permitted here."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
