DiverMike 5 #2 February 15, 2013 +1 I agree completely. Wrestling is one of the sports that doesn't have a big payday at the end of it. It requires as much commitment and devotion as any other sport, but it doesn't come with a green jacket or million dollar paydays like golf does. The athletes work extremely hard and the highest level of competition and worldwide recognition is the Olympics. Starting 2020, it won't be. The Olympics has lost a lot of its amateur soul. It is now just a billion dollar industry. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

lawrocket 3 #4 February 15, 2013 I concur with you. The pinnacle of wrestling is Olympic gold. The pinnacle of golf? They'd still rather win a Masters or a British Open. My wife is hotter than your wife.

quade 4 #6 February 15, 2013 What I don't understand about it is wrestling is one of the original Olympic sports. Weren't those supposed to always be included? I understand it for financial reasons, but it's a slap in the face to tradition. If they want to ditch a sport, I can think of a lot better candidates. As for sports with big pay days at the end, please tell me you've ever attended a rhythmic gymnastics competition outside of the Olympics. It just doesn't exist. Or how about professional archery? Money shouldn't be the sole reason for inclusion or exclusion. What should be the criteria is tradition and participation.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
davjohns 1 #7 February 15, 2013 Kind of the quintessential Olympic sport, isn't it? Ancient Greeks didn't make marble sculptures of people playing badminton or dancing with ribbons. They were wrestling, throwing a discus, and running. Huge mistake. I've lost respect for them.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

jakee 1,501 #10 February 15, 2013 QuoteKind of the quintessential Olympic sport, isn't it? Nope. Running. But the criteria for inclusion in the Olymipcs is largely about widespread participation and competitions. Yep, marathon run, wrestling, discus, javelin - those traditional sports should always be retained to remind the Olympics of its roots. If they want to eliminate something, how about that "sport" where young girls twirl sticks with ribbons on them. How the heck did that ever get in there? Look, I agree those sports are rubbish - in fact, I think there shouldn't be any artistic events and almost nothing that needs to be subjectively judged - but that's a seperate issue. jackwallace 3 #19 February 15, 2013 I could be wrong, but from what I remember the first Olympics had two events. A sprint and wrestling. The guy that got the laurel in wrestling died pinning his opponent. Talk about giving 110%. See if somebody dies maybe they'd keep it.U only make 2 jumps: the first one for some weird reason and the last one that you lived through. The rest are just filler. scr
DiverMike 5 #20 February 15, 2013 wow - you must be really old to remember that. The first Olympics was in 776 BC. According to wikipedia, it only had one event - a running race. Wrestling wasn't added until 708 BC. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

davjohns 1 #23 February 15, 2013 I looked it up. Initial games were only a stadium long race. Then a race with laps. Wrestling wasn't added until 708BC. So, what's three thousand years of tradition, really? Throw it out. BTW - There are culinary arts events in the olympics. I wonder what the ancient Greeks would have said?I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..
