Dead Horse Posts...Maybe...Maybe Not.

Recommended Posts

Okay, so sure, after you have been contributing to thse forums for a few years or more, it seems that all the topics have been covered. At least until a new advancement in gear give us more to debate/discuss. I also agree that doing a search for the topic first is good policy, but simply locking a thread to prevent more conversation of a previously talked about topic is not wise.... Why, well, what if someone has new light to shed on a topic? Also, at times, discussions need to be revamped, as outdated thinking can change... In the case of the Sabre Opening....I have had a new, expereince regarding their openings and would have liked to add my two cents....Maybe I'll start a new post and see if that one gets locked too. Anyway, just something that the moderators should consider before locking a thread due to a beaten to death topic. Nice to be back.

So how hard would it be for you to go find a thread that already exists on the subject and post your experience there?

Use existing threads on your topic to continue a discussion rather than starting a new one. Posts that are repetitive in nature (i.e. Dead Horses) may be removed or locked at the discretion of the moderators.

Simply use the search feature, choose the thread that best fits your new information, and resurrect it by replying to it. It will get more attention and be better supported by the other comments already in that thread. Nobody is opposed to new information, but having thirty different conversations about the same subject doesn't forward the "cause."

Thanks. I'm kinda new here, and learning the customs...

A recent discussion had its share of "dead horse" potential. Still, questions had been asked that hadn't been answered, and new information did trickle through the haze from time to time. It was still interesting. Then came the conversation stopper - the cry of "Troll" from a rather hostile participant.

If my understanding of "troll" is accurate, it didn't apply. Yet, someone thought it did. What are the guidelines?

Thanks,
Jon

As dead horses go, there are two species: 1) continually appearing new posts on subjects that have already been covered in many other posts, and 2) an individual thread in which all possible points have been made, constructive conversations have ended, and now it's just very opinionated people on two sides of an issue slinging mud or flames at each other. Good, informative, and constructive threads can get spoiled by differences of opinion elevating to personal attacks or generally hateful banter. Those threads will normally get locked. [:/]

This is the definition that HH uses (link retrieved from the Forum Rules).

That name, used in an accusatory tone, has been used rather flippantly here before. It's just the nature of things, I guess.

Exactly what needed to be said, Lisa. The smart thing to do would be to do a simple search and add your new findings/thoughts to the relevant thread.
