oldwomanc6 52 #1 August 17, 2012 I'm so frustrated right now. This afternoon, as I walked out of the bank, a young man came up to me and told me he backed into my car. He hit it hard enough in the front that he pushed it over the curb and into the embankment. He wiped out the front end, and the curb/embankment damaged the rear end as well. Not a scratch on his truck. This is the fourth time in five years that someone has hit a car of mine in a parking lot. I was rear ended, someone turned left into me, and another driver backed into me and wiped out the left side. I wasn't even in the car for two of the events (It was parked). Whenever possible, I park way the heck out in "truck country" to keep it away from careless drivers, so I can't imagine how many times it would have been hurt if I was in the habit of parking with the crowd. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful the kid stuck around until I got back to the car. After all, he could have driven off, and I never would have known who did it. I commended him and thanked him for that. I already talked to his insurance company and he/they are accepting full responsibility, but even after the fix, it won't be worth as much as before. To say nothing of the inconvenience and cost of time to have it out of commission during the time it will take to have it fixed. I just want to scream!lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB
LookUpHigh 0 #2 August 17, 2012 I sold my old car because of this, I got hit 3 times sitting in my car in a parking lot while parked. Had some idiot drive up onto my hood with his Durango and come inches from putting his tire through my windshield and into my face, I freaked out and pulled him out of his truck ready to fight because i was kind of in shock, turns out he was turned around talking to his 2 year old daughter in the back who was crying and by that point he was also crying lol. And then I got hit probably 4 more times on the road, my insurance company hated me.
Nataly 38 #3 August 18, 2012 ARRRGH that is so irritating!!! Just 3 or 4 months after I bought my bike, the boss' boss' boss' boss plowed into it while reversing and talking on the phone at the same time... I was SO annoyed but what could I say??? It was parked way around the bend in the designated bike parking spaces - *how* she managed to hit it, I will never know... Fucking *nightmare* to get it all sorted, but I did get to try a bigger bike for 2 months whilst mine was in the garage, so there was a small silver lining... I feel your pain... TheRealOps7 0 #6 August 18, 2012 I'm with you. The only new car I have ever bought (2010 VW Jetta Wagon TDI) got hit 4 times in 15 months. The worst was when my Father-in-law, on the day of his mother's funeral, backed (all the way) down the side of it as he left his garage... "It sounded funny but i didn't see it out there in the driveway so I kept going..." Awkward for all of us. After getting the car back from the shop (month 13-15) I sold it and bought a used 2004 Wrangler (and changed jobs so I am no longer driving 50k miles a year, but more like 4k). Some cars are magnets for that crap!

JohnMitchell 16 #8 August 19, 2012 I've only had one parking lot hit-and-run with no note on the car. I guess I've been lucky. Plus my daughter put a crease in one of my doors backing her car out of the driveway. I gave a can of rubbing compound and she cleaned it up okay. My son pulled out about half the dent. Not too bad. What colors are these cars getting hit? I think silver is the worst color because it's so close to pavement color. My folks had a silver Buick that was always getting hit. Damn near had a standing order with JC Whitney for fenders & bumpers, thank God they were easy to change...and it was almost always the main 'target of opportunity' for the CHP when I would drive home from work after midnight! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

Ever notice when you park your car in a totally empty lot, the next person to park will put their vehicle *right* next to yours?? I have no statistics on hand, but I think the odds of your car getting hit this way are relatively high because people think there is tons of space and end up paying less attention when maneuvering."There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

That is so true. I never park near anyone whenever possible. Both times I was wacked when parked, I was parked within a parking space, even though I was parked in the farthest parking space in the lot. So far (knock, knock) when I "showroom" park, they have managed to avoid me. Maybe, doing that makes them at least notice I'm there? lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB

ryoder 1,590 #19 August 20, 2012 I just had my Mustang completely repainted, then let the paint cure a month before waxing it for the first time, then drove into town, parked it, and watched some idiot back into it."Oh, I didn't see it." Am I the only one who looks around me when driving? I see it all the time when watching others driving, they don't look beyond their hoods, they are on the phone, they don't signal, they don't look when they don't signal and change lanes.......
