Meso 38 #51 July 24, 2012 Arghhh, god damn hipsters. Fixies are mandatory with 90s walkmans and caps with the brims flipped all the way up. I know here in S.A even, the fixie crowd are all hipsters with their Ray Ban Warfarers and skinny jeans cut off at the knee.

jcd11235 0 #53 July 24, 2012 QuoteCan you show me on a map any hill you cycle which rises 200ft or more in .4km or less? Do you know of an online topographical map service? Google's terrain feature is WAY too course to be of any use. Being able to show a 10 foot delta would probably be enough. edit to add: Also, if a map is used, we can only obtain average grade. The average grade of the climb to which Ryoder linked is 11%.Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
Bertt 0 #54 July 25, 2012 I used to have one of those; no brakes, just your legs. It's a lot of fun to balance at a stop sign or light, then take off, but they are pure hell in hilly terrain. Put me down for a freewheel. You don't have to outrun the bear.
MrCat 0 #55 July 26, 2012 Quote 16% for 0.4 km is a height gain of over 200ft. Can you show me on a map any hill you cycle which rises 200ft or more in .4km or less? I had to think about it but there are at least four climbs near me that equal to that gradient or are steeper than it. Three are off road and the other is (barely) tarmaced Ballacob Slewellyn Surby Post Office Hill, Glen May (tarmac) I've done them all on my geared bikes but I've only done two of them on my singlespeed (32*16). Thinking about it I should be able to do Post Office hill on my s/s. Ballcob isn't going to happen on my s/s though in any way shape or form ! Lemon really doesn't get that steep, and Gates Pass is steeper in some sections that show as moderate. Guess we'll have to visit each other and test in person! ryoder 1,590 #69 July 27, 2012 Damn! I forgot about this. I just learned of this road last winter when it was closed for the season. (It is all gravel). I've ridden past both ends of the road but knew nothing about it. I need to try this. Of course, that darned Taylor Phinney has the Strava KOM for it, at just 6.5mph."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
