murps2000 86 #26 November 27, 2010 QuoteYou're right, I did mean - why do you think that a cordura pouch is immune? Immune? Well since you're cornering me (as you should) I'll back pedal a little and say that I think it is far less prone. I should know by now not to speak in absolutes on these boards or about skydiving in general. As I've said, I think that a spandex pouch (particularly a new one) grips the pilot chute more tightly over it's entire length than a cordura pouch which only secures it with elastic at the mouth. I think this may have the potential to contribute to an improperly packed pilot chute bunching up during extraction. As I'm sure you've read by now, others may disagree. Another thing that I'll mention again, I know spandex wears out. I'm guessing I've got around 11-1200 jumps on my rig I'm still waiting for the cordura pouch or the elastic mouth to show any significant signs of wear. keithbar 1 #27 December 8, 2010 hey gary. i was jumping dave verner's old northern lights cont. at sparta back in the early 90's it had a cordura throw out on a belly band. and the elastic around the mouth was a little worn. doing a 4 way we broke high so someone could play with a new canopy. at breakoff i rolled on my back a shot a bird a everyone for pulling high. held it for several sec. and when i went back to my belly had a preeme.. I'm sure glad it didn't go off my left side and wrap me in the deployment. could of happened real easy. i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . My response. Naw I wasn't low I'm just such a big guy I look closer than I really am .
jclalor 12 #28 December 12, 2010 This might be a stupid qustion; Could you prolong the life of the spandex by not stowing you're PC when you're not jumping?

One of my rigs is sitting there with its pilot chute unpacked. I have several rigs, and when I packed it up here at home, I was thinking that I would not jump that one for a while. I'm sure it helps, but it is not a practical thing for most people to do if they jump often or if they pack before they leave the DZ.
Hellis 0 #30 December 12, 2010 I pack before i leave the DZ and still dont stow the PC. I wrap the PC around the legstrap, its not like you are going to notice the 'problem' before the next jump. And it takes less than a minute to pack the PC. I guess if you dont have a gearbag it could be an issue to carry the bag with the PC packed.
