Man, now I got myself rummaging thru the books of memories. And since I'm responding to THE demo man hisself... my 13th "skydive" was a demo into Northeastern State University Stadium in Tahlequah Oklahoma (back in the day) on a Paracommander from 4K. airtwardo 7 #49 September 12, 2007 Quote Quote Pappy Boyington AND the Japanese pilot that shot him down. Ok, now THAT's pretty cool. Add several Golden Knights to my list & Dana Bowman... Quote Yeah...'Pappy & the Jap' were both at Oshkosh several years ago selling their books. For reasons quite understandable, the didn't get along. I had gotten Pappy's signature in my log earlier in the day along with a few autographed copies of both his books...I bought the Japanese pilots book had it autographed and asked almost as an afterthought if he'd sign my log as well. He didn't want to sign the entry next to Boyington's...he signed his name just ABOVE Pappy. A very interesting gentleman that had flow his 172 from Japan to Oshkosh...one reason Pappy didn't like him is he told a much different story about when met in a 'dog fight' and also denied shooting at Boyington while under canopy...he said they just didn't do that at that point in the war, they saved ammo for high value targets not pilots. In a booth not far from his, someone was selling those faux kamikaze headbands...I bought one, brought it back and had him sign that as well...he followed me to where I got it, bought the entire stock out, signed them all and sold 'em in HIS booth for 20 bucks a piece. And I too have Dana's sig, and he sent my boys each an autographed postcard after I told him how disappointed they would be having missed meeting him...very nice guy. As far as the Golden Knights... One of my best friends, a retired Ranger, did 2 tours with the Knights... Following GK training in Yuma one year, he called to say he was on his way for a visit. I came home from work in San Diego to find 10-12 GK's racked out in my apartment. They thanked me with one of the really neat 'signed by the team' presentation posters...framed and all. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
