Wow. Kind of reminds me of the Lady Be Good. Hopefully they'll find the pilot's remains and give him a decent burial. Also, hopefully they’ll do something good to preserve the wreckage so it doesn’t turn into a hacked up pile of junk if the souvenir hunters get to it.

Probably not a good idea to strip any of the parts for use on any other aircraft... if the Lady Be Good experience is any example!!

Always liked the p-40. 6 50s really would make mince meat out of anything in the air.

The P40 was never more than mediocre. The 6 .50 machine guns were completely ordinary for the day.

The find of the plane is very interesting, but we shouldn't be inclined to think that the P40 was in any way a special performer.

IIRC The story of the Flying Tigers (AVG) related that Clare Chennault only got the P-40s they used was because the Brits rejected them as inadequate.
